96 LT1 ss motor question?
Sup fbods?
Ok Im getting ready purchase a 100k mile lt1 motor out of an 96 ss. Im putting this motor in my 94 camaro. My question is what kinda od camshaft can I go with that would give me some good power and what roller rockers (1.6) can I use with the camshaft without swaping out my springs. I sold my 385 stroker a while ago and it had alot of stuff in. My sig had my old mod specs. This time i just want some simple modification combos that.will keep my car streetable. Thanks chris |
You don't want to change to a bigger cam or do 1.6 rockers without changing springs (especially on one with 100k on the clock).

Ok cool I was thinking that too. I will probably just leave the motor alone and just run it. Lord knows im putting in a 383 when this one blows up lol thanks shoebox

Gotta another Questions for you Fbod GURUS
From my understanding 1996 was the first year with the exceptions of some test 95 LT1's for GM to run the OBDII system. Going back to my 96 LT1 that I'm picking up which comes with the computer. Will the 96 OBDII computer fit into my wiring harness from my 94 Camaro. Or if I were to get an OBD1 computer. Will that work for my 96 LT1 (ie crank positioning sensor etc..) Thanks CHris |

Thanks CHris 1996 was the first year for OBD2...none of the 95's had it. They did have, however, the OBD2 16 pin connector. Put the OBD2 computer on the shelf for 'someday'. Hook up the stock 94 wiring harness to your 96 engine and ignore the cam positioning sensor altogether. Unless I'm mistaken, all the connectors were common between the years... |

SO basically just run my stock PCM with this 96 motor. I never changed the wiring harness at all. Its still stock. Chris |
Yes,that's it...plug and play.

Other than the PCM. Are there any major differences from the 96 LT1 vs 94-95 LT1. I know of the Crank Positioning sensor. Anything else? HP performace etc...
Chris |
Basically no difference. The 96 and 97 cars were rated at 285 hp, up from the 275 hp of the earlier cars basically due to the dual cat exhaust.
