Coil resistance

I have a coil...the primary is fine....

seconday is whats getting me.......... Checked it several time with 2 meters, I am getting 7700 and 8700 reading. I would say its weak, it still works but could it be getting weak?

My manual says spec is 5k-7k and it must be within the spec....

My original stock coil was about 8500 ohms. It is still in use, but now on a truck.

Ohm meter might find some gross problems and shorted turns will show up as less ohms, but without a high pot tester you dont know if the insulation in the coil is any good. Your ohm meter has a 9 volt battery and your ignition coil sees 10-40,000 volts, so how is a 9 volt battery going to tell you if your insulation is bad under high voltage potential?

Another thing is heat. These things often fail under heat stress moving the hair-thin wires around after they break - Sometimes it is making contact, then it doesnt. You can simulate heat stress with a heat gun if you want to look at it on a bench tester, it might take a while - just don't melt the thing.
