'94 z28, '95 lt1

Alright, im looking at buying a '95 lt1 for my camaro, but have a question about swapping it in. Are there any differences other than the vented opti? i dont want to run into any major problems trying to get it in there...

thanks for the help guys.

Just wondering, but why are you changing out the motor? If it's just for the opti, you can convert it.

my motor has 208k miles, and atleast a blown headgasket, i have coolant pouring out of the tailpipes. i was quoted $1700 to replace head gaskets, water pump, intake, and exhaust gaskets, 02 sensors, and cat. so i figure a motor for $650 is a better deal since i dont know if the heads are bad on my car, or what else is going to fail because of the milage. So is the opti the only difference? does it have different plugs or anything?

thanks in advance.

There are no significant differences between the 94 and 95 engines, except the Opti. This assumes you will continue to use your 94 PCM and harness.

You may find the routing of the vacuum line for the PCV valve is different. It's a U-tube back in to the intake on the 94, and runs to the front of the intake manifold on the 95.

You will also need to swap out the bottom plate on the throttle body. The angle of the nipple for the coolant on the passenger side is at a different angle, because they changed the routing of the steam line between 94 and 95.

would i still need to swap out the bottom plate if i just do the block off mod?

i believe the motor comes with the manifold.. does that make a difference?

Do you know the condition of the engine in question? ie have seen it run? Some times a known problem is better than an unknown one. What if the only difference between the 2 engines is the fact that the replacement has good (for now) head gaskets. Maybe that anything you would need to replace in the future on the current engine, you may also need to replace on the replacement. Unless you know the owner of the replacement, never believe what you are told regarding it's history.

I will say this, I hope you pulled the plugs on the engine you have now and sprayed a lubricant in the plug holes after having cranked it over a couple of times with the plugs out.
