I just put on a new set of 61909 Edelbrock heads, i used Fel pro gaskets 260-1650 ,went to put the oil in,befor i put on the water pump, and i saw oil leaking out of the top port on the passenger side, water pump port.i dident have the Valve covers on.i was just putting the oil through the holes in the head. want to check it out befor i put any more time in.

are the heads you just installed designed for an Lt1?
sounds to me like you have regular sbc heads on your Lt1,possibly wrong gaskets too.

Those are the wrong heads for an LT1, the oil return holes to the valley are directly over the water pump inlets in the block on an LT1. You most likely have GEN1 heads on a GEN2 block....make sure the heads were not boxed wrong. Pull your valve covers and shine a light into the water pump hole the oil is coming out of and see if you can see the light through the oil return hole in the front of the head.
