93 formula with TH-700-R4 trans help
 

I have a 93 Formula with a TH-700-R4 trans that has been modded with a Trans-Go shift kit and a 2300 stall torque converter. Also i have the stock rear with 2.73 gears.

The TH-700-R4 trans has something locking out automatically downshifting from 2nd gear into 1st gear at wide open throttle with the stock 2.73 gears.

I am upgrading to a moser 12 bolt rear with 3.73 gears and I would like to know what must be done to eliminate this lock out so that when in 2nd gear the trans will down shift into 1st gear at wide open throttle as it does from 4th to 3rd and 3rd to 2nd?

anyone with any ideas or info?

Have you checked your kickdown cable? Mine wasn't shifting right on my IROC I adjusted that and wham it would downshift to first at 30mph eventhough it shifted to second at 35...it loved first gear after I adjusted it.

If you don't know what you're doing you may wanna ask around...its been three years since I did it and I honestly cant remember exactly how I adjusted it...but I know if you do it wrong you run the risk of burning the clutch packs.

Are you talking about the throttle valve cable?

Also I am not sure but someone had told me that the lockout I am ralking about was done on 93s with the 2.73 gears.

1st gear was locked out on the shifter also so that i could not manually downshift into 1st either, but i removed the stop on the shifter and now i can manually downshift into first but the trans will not do it automatically like in other gears.

Man a couple guys I know with 2.73's don't have a problem downshifting to 1st...but both are newer than 93...which is an electronically controlled 700R4...I haven't heard of one not downshifting to first on its own...how fast are you moving? Like at 20mph does it downshift to first?

It will not down**** at any speed upon wide open throttle. Will drop down upon deceleration under 10mph.

If the TV cable is adjusted correctly?, then you should get a 2-1 downshift. Make sure that the TV cable is tight when you when you open the throttle all the way. If it is on the loose side, then you will not get a 2-1 downshift.

Sounds like the cable to me...

Its the cable for sure, but I know when you install the shiftkit you can do some stuff to prevent from going into 1st or something.
