93 Camaro 1LE tuning?

I bought a nice 93 Camaro Model B4C-1LE that has 130,000 miles on it with the intention of restoring it as a present for my son that is retiring from the US Marine Corps next summer , serving 24 years as an EOD Bomb Specialist with 3 tours of duty to Iraq and 3 tours of duty to Afghanistan. I’m having trouble finding people to work on the 93 Camaro since it’s the OBD1 old style which isn’t used much by many people.
I’m not sure of what modifications were done besides Headers and an aftermarket exhaust.
I am having trouble trying to find someone to work on it as far as plugging in in and checking all the parameters in the ECM. What equipment can I purchase that won’t empty my wallet to check and reset the settings if they are off from the stock settings. It smells like its running rich and after warming up the idle goes down too low to 400 rpms.
Can anyone recommend a shop that specializes in tuning and repairing the older LT1 engines or affordable equipment to check and reset the perimeters on the ECM back to stock.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you , Rocky David

Re: 93 Camaro 1LE tuning?

Welcome to CamaroZ28.com ! ! !

The 93 model is unique in that it still has a removable chip that contains the program values. It can only be programmed by having a new chip burned. Later models (94 and up) have a fixed chip that can be flash programmed. 93 is also the only year that can still flash the diagnostic codes on the SES light by shorting the DLC pins.

Not sure if or how you can pull the .bin file on a 93. It's easy to do on later models with readily available tuning software. But you can observe the operation of the ECM, reading all the sensors and calculated parameters (injector pulse widths, short term and long term fuel trims, operating mode - open loop, closed loop, power enrichment - etc.) using the free Scan9495 software, written by GaryDoug, a member here. If you run a data log of the ECM, I can review it for you. There's also a guide to interpreting scan data linked on the “Computer Diagnostics and Tuning” forum.

Welcome to the site - and congrats on the Z. It's a rare one as they only made 19 1LE's in 1993.
