i too would like to get this clarified-

I believe the 700R is a 4L60
a 4L60E is an electronically controlled 4L60

And my main question-
are the TQ converters interchangeable?

I believe that the 700 R4 and the 4L60 are the same thing, and in 94 the 4L60E came out. 700R4 and 4L60 parts should be interchangeable, but I am unsure of the 4L60E because it is electronically controlled. As for your car, it is the 4L60E

These transmissions are basically the same and the parts do interchange just fine.

Just be sure to match your spline and you will be fine on the parts from either or......

Absolutely. I bought a converter off my buddy that was in his 96 A4 4l60e, I bolted it right up to my 93 4l60, and it works fine. So theres your proof

so if the 700 r4 is the same as the 4l60, then why did GM change the names of them? i'm not trying to disagree with any of you guys, i just would like to know what the difference is.
also, in theory it is possible that the 700r4 TC work in the 4l60, but not work in the 4l60e...maybe something extra is needed to make it work with the electronics? if anyone has tried a 700r4 in a 4l60e and has no problems, then i'd be pretty angry that all these companies have been ripping us all these years. it seems as if anything with "LT1" in the application has a 300% discount!

also, i was just looking through my summit, and B&M lists a TC for 93-96 4l60e...but no 97? do i not have a 4l60e in my 97 or does summit not realize the camaro was produced after 96?
