IMO it is two thin for the summer.
A 20/50 would be better in a high milage engine.
Re: 5w30
I'd think twice before switching to synthetic. Probably use some good quality 10W-40 dino oil with a good filter. Consider why it is that you want to change before you do it. JMHO
Re: 5w30
damnit lol, i just ordered 5w30 royal purple oil, and my engine is 57k miles so idk if thats high for a 95'? oh and im located around boston, MA

Re: 5w30
Well, just cancell your order if you can. If not, then be sure to keep your eye on your oil pressure at all times, especially when running high RPMs. Probably will be fine. But remember that it costs a hellava lot less to change your oil order than it will cost to build a new engine. JMHO
Re: 5w30
At full operating temp, there's no difference in thickness between a 5w30 and a 10w30... the 5w30 will just flow better in colder temps. I wouldn't worry too much about switching to a good synthetic... you should be just fine. However, I do agree that you need to ask yourself why you're changing. Right now, your best reason for changing is probably to get a longer drain interval, and a little better protection during those longer intervals.
If you're planning on sticking to 3000 mile/3 month interval, then you're wasting your money... just stick to a good conventional. But if you're looking at doubling that interval, then look at a good synthetic.
I'm an Amsoil dealer, and Amsoil recently came out with an "XL" formula (extended life) which is specially formulated to match the 7500 mile/6 month interval. A few different weights as well (5w30, 10w30, etc)... In addition, Amsoil also have a Severe Service 0w30, 20w50, and a Euro formula 5w40. If any of you are interested, shoot me a PM or email... I'd be happy to answer any questions I can, provide quotes for the product shipped to you, etc.

Thank you for saving me the trouble of posting that
Re: 5w30
yeah i agree, just keep it and change your drain intervals to about 4.5 to 5 months.
Oh, btw, 57k on a 95 is VERY VERY LOW!!!
I have a 95 and i have 66,600 on it, and that is still extremely low for a 95. Your car and mine should have on it at least 110k by now if driven all the time.

I think you'd be ok with doubling the normal 3k mile/3 month drain interval with that oil. I would just monitor things really closely though. If you read www.bobistheoilguy.com, Royal Purple hasn't gotten the best oil analysis results... it tends to thin way out (almost to a 20 weight) after a time. Also its wear results weren't all that impressive, especially considering the price.
And sure, Royal Purple might net you an extra HP or two... but why is that? Because it is a fairly thin oil for its weight.

My opinion admittedly is biased, as I strongly believe in Amsoil's product and would recommend the Amsoil XL "extended life" formula if you wanted to try a 7500 mile/6 month drain interval. If you want a good unbiased opinion about oils, when you go to bobistheoilguy.com go to their forums and look up Patman.
