52mm or 58mm Throtle body?
WEll newbie it looks LIke your new to this.....
It looks like you have a stock engine by your sig so I am going to tell you this. do a search on throttle bodies and if you can't come up with any usefull information then I will just tell you off the bat...
Chevy engines up to a 400 block come with the 48mm throttle body. The thing you would be changing when putting ona slightly larger throttle body would be your adjustability on the gas pedal. With a larger then needed throttle body you will go from CLOSED blade = W O T (wide open throttle) a couple milliseconds faster to let the air dump in slightly faster. It doesnt give your car any hoarspower gains what-so-ever. I think I have actually seen posts where it was dyno tested and the most anyone saw was possibly 2 hp gain in the upper rpm ranges and it could have just beena slightly better run and not even the throttle body. Case at point. Your stock car could use the $450.00 Elsewhere like the suspension etc. Get a BMR Track pack and some subframe connectors, Some roller rockers, Exhaust buildup, any suspension mod is worth your money more then a throttle body.
A throttle body is somthing you add to a very nice built up supercharged engine or a race application etc. Simply not needed when stock or some bolt ons.
Cool

Red96lt1 is right, they want give you a very big boost at all. I would spend my money somewhere else right now, and later on if you have some money to blow add a 52mm not 58(you have to bore the intake to match 58, but stock intake is 52). Get a CAI that's good for some HP, go w/ LT header(that's great for HP), exhaust....etc.... but if you really want a tb let me know I have a 52 bbk for sale(but I would suggest other things for now). hope that helps
I put a 52mm on my LT1 and noticed a pretty good increase in power. At the time I had CAI and pullies, so i lost some lowend until i got a larger exhaust system. A 52mm is all that you need, 58 would be for larger motors or a completly built motor or blower. If you already have CAI and exhaust, a throttle body might not be a bad thing to get, but like any mod that you do, some cars respond differantly. Either way it is something you will need to get eventually, and not when you have 400RWP.
Of course you would get better power from a cam, thats somewhat obvious. Dynos arnt always that reliable, there are other factors to consider when doing dyno testing, air temp, no forced induction, and like i said differant cars respond differantly to mods. Some people notice a differance, other people dont, also if your car is basically stock, dont waste your time tuning the computer because you have nothing to tune it for.
If its your first mod, get a CAI. Thats like the best bang for $$$. Then get some long tube headers, a better Y, and a decent catback. LT1's thrive off a better exhaust. Long Tube headers usually are good for 15 to 25 RWHP ... Really wakes the car up. Im saving for mine now
A friend of mine just got his hookers on, and WOW definate difference on the mid and top end. Pulls WAY harder. He has a BBK throttle body, and DIDNT dyno, but said he felt no difference, if that helps any. There are better places to get more power, and cheaper, as of right now ( near or at stock ) than with the throttle body. Hope that helps

i AGREE ABOUT THE EXHAUST.
DO IT ONCE AND RIGHT THE FIRST TIME.
I INSTALLED
18x9.5 Corvette thin C5 chromes wrapped in goodyear eagle F-1
3.73'S,
REAR END REBUILD and 3 series high performance posi.
TA Girdle
New Axles
BBK SHORTY HEADERS (VERY THICK AND NICE)
BBK Y-PIPE
MAGNAFLOW 100% polished stainless steel exhaust 4 inch tips
Catco high Flow CAT
and a flowtech Electronic Cutout
I did this all at once and it woke my car up like crazy. its like ONE JOB AT A TIME. Do a complete job and not just a part. I chose 1 5'8 inch primary headers for my stock engine and they are awesome. it sounds ridiculous. After doing this all at once and romping on it for a couple of weeks I blew the once rebuilt 4l60e
DID YOU KNOW*** You can find a magnaflow exhaust system that is 100% stainless BEAUTIFUL QUALITY AND SOUND for about $250.00 Then the cat is $50, headers +y pipe $250 ( I got ceramic coated for $250!) Then a shop install. I paid about $800 for that setup and that is so cheap concidering longtubes only give maybe 5 more HP and cost $800 alone!!
