51, 61, 84
51, 61, 84
These are the codes I'm throwing on my lt1scanmater. The 84 is from the skipshift being unplugged from the original owner and the 51/61 just came on after I replaced the driver side exhaust manifold gasket. Car is a 1994 z28 m6 stock. The driver side manifold area started lightly smoking after I finished installing the gasket and started the car. I'm not sure if this is due to the fact that wd-40 was sprayed on the manifold bolts/air fitting for manifold or if it's just the new gasket material burning off from the heat. Not sure how the 51/61 suddenly came up.

From the service manual:
PCM calibrations are stored in the EEPROM (Electronically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory). The EEPROM is not removable from the PCM. DTC 51 will set if no calibration was programmed in the PCM, or when the PCM detects an internal program fault (Checksum error). If DTC 51 sets during normal vehicle operation, replace the PCM. The replacement PCM must be reprogrammed.
Doesn't look good.

Too bad cause it's only got 50k on it.
Yea, I disconnected the battery to let the pcm reset and 51, 65 have not come back so I'm not sure what happened. I'm still getting smoke coming from the driver side header. I've had new coated headers smoke upon initial start up but I'm not sure if gaskets are supposed to have a similar reaction to the first heat cycle once started. The only reason I swapped out the manifold gasket on the driver side is because i was getting a tick around 2 grand. After checking all the spark plugs/boots on that side I decided to swap out the gasket. The old one literally split in half and the back 2 bolts were fairly loose on that manifold. I'm gonna go take it for another test drive real quick to see if I still have a tick. Hopefully, it doesn't start on fire.
