4032 and 2618 Pistons For The Street/Track
I'm building (rebuilding) my LT4 in my 4th gen Camaro, and need to put new pistons in because I need to bore the cylinders to .040 over. I had JE Extreme pistons in it which were 2618. The car never got any miles on it because of the crap job done in either the original tune or the assembly.
So the issue that I run into is that this combo at 15lbs of boost should make around 950HP to the crank. However, this car will see far more weekend street miles, with some drag strip and big track race days. From all the research I've done. a 2618 piston will deform over time, and really force me to rebuild this engine a lot more often. Well, half the motor is under the cowl which means on top of the cost of putting new pistons in, I have to pull the motor just to do it.
I spoke to DSS Racing, who does forge their own pistons, and they feel very confident that their 2005x GSX piston, which is a 4032 casting, will hold up fine with my build. Conversely, Wiseco says they have customers with high mileage engines running 2618 pistons without needing to rebuild. I really need feedback on this as it's pretty much the last sticking point to figure out
