4 Bolt Main Engine in Camaro?

I got a 94 Z28 that's been a project for the last decade and I'm hopefully getting closer to putting in my built motor. When I removed the oil pan from the old motor the other day, I noticed it is a 4-bolt, which I thought was only in the Corvette? It was unexpected and I already built a different 2-bolt block. Is there any market value for a 4-bolt LT engine? I've tried listing the short-block on ebay/CL some time ago and was unsuccessful finding a buyer, especially since it is to heavy to ship. Just trying to figure out if its worth selling or just saving in the shed as a spare if I blowup the 2-bolt studded setup. Thanks!

James

Did you try listing it on this site? ......or other LT1 oriented sites?

Engines replaced under factory warranty were typically 4-bolt mains.

Thanks for the info.. that makes sense. Car was well cared for when I bought it and mostly stock, didn't come with any paperwork though. Had I known this was a 4-bolt, would have built this one instead but oh well.

Yes, had it listed here, LS1tech and Ebay for about a month or so earlier this year. Had 2 deadbeat bidders on ebay and a few local calls (which didn't realize the LT is different than 1st gen block). Got tired of the hassle and too busy to do anything with it so I pushed it in a corner.

Any idea if it has a decent market value or demand?

I'm not up to date on demand/pricing. I sold my stock 2-bolt block about 10 years ago, and don't even remember what I got for it.

I would keep it well oiled, well protected, in a sealed bag. Someday it will be worth something. The factory straight 4-bolt block is extremely strong. The webs were designed knowing there would be bolt holes drilled in them. The shop that built my engine said they were as good or better than splayed bolting. Unfortunately they decided that after my splayed 4-bolt conversion. One of their builds was making 1,125 flywheel HP with huge boost and no block fill on a Corvette block.

Consider the fact that Jonathan Atkins (Tick Performance) is probably making 1,500 HP on a destroked (329ci) factory block, with partial fill - 7.30 seconds @ 196 MPH.

Yet there are still people on ltxtech.com praying for the appearance of a beefy aftermarket LT1 block

I'd keep it as the 4 bolt LT1 blocks aren't as plentiful as the 2 bolt blocks.

Wise advice, thanks! I'll hang on to it for the next build :D
