3M Fuel system cleaner
3M Fuel system cleaner
Has anyone ever had this done on there car? I have a friend who does this on vehicals, and says it is the ultimate in Fuel systems cleaners. Only licensed Nascar fuel system cleaner.
First they run a cleaner through your engine (crankcase I assume). Then Throttle body/intake cleaning, then gas tank additive. He says he has done this to all his cars, and is very knowledgable about them too. He aslo can do it for me for whole sale, instead of like $60.00 that it usually costs.
Do you think this would hurt my engine? Or is it recomended. I have never had one done on my car, but it only has like 23K miles also.

I use and suggest the through the fuel rail cleaner from 3M number 08912. It requires an adapter hose to hook to the fuel rail at the schrader valve. You have to disconnect the fuel pressure regulator and block the vac line. You have to also pull the fuel pump relay.
The engine will run from the can of cleaner until it is empty and when it shuts down it is finished.
My experience with fuel tank additives is that because they are diluted in the fuel, they take much longer to achieve the same amount of cleaning as the above type. These fuel additives are best used on a regular basis after the system has been cleaned the correct way to help maintain that cleanliness. About every oil change or so.
Adding anything to the crankcase of course will not clean the fuel system.
There are good liquids that can be dripped into the intake such BK but it will only clean the valves and tops of pistons because it does not enter the fuel system.
Hope this helps.

I don't like the idea of cleaning the fuel system or crankcase quickly. I like the idea of cleaning things slowly so as not to "shock" the system. I would recommend two treatments back-to-back with the Chevron (with techron additive) fuel treatment. I have seen it anywhere from 5.99-9.99 at local auto stores.
