383cid with supercharger (drivability)

Hello;
I got 97 LT1 Z28 383cid with top notch quality forged rotating assembly and 210cc AFR competition Heads.. If I want to get a supercharger my drivability will be dissappear?? I heard the most street friendly is ATI pro chargers.. What do you think? What can you suggest me?? And how much psi?

Re: 383cid with supercharger (drivability)

well for one it depends on what you think is streetable
two what kind of cam is in it and what is your compression ratio like?
for me anything is driveable as long as i can pull up to a gas station and fill it up with premium and not worry about it exploading
so give a little more info and then meybe we can give you a little better answer
and just adding a SC wont comprimise drivveability especially a centrifigul unit

Re: 383cid with supercharger (drivability)

I was planning to use 200 wet shot nitrous, but you know nitrous doesn't give permanently 200hp..So I want to get a supercharger and I will use 100 shot nitrous..
-My CR is 11:1 ,my camshaft is 237/245 584/579 113 lsa.. These will change when I get supercharger.. I guess my compression ratio will be 9.5:1 (something) and my camshaft will change according to my application..
-For me drivability is; Long trip (without a problem),I can drive everyday, also sometimes in traffic..

A supercharger is very street friendly. You may have some challenges for fuel with the OBDII setup. Best bet would be some low impedence injectors and an Acceleronics converter box.

Re: 383cid with supercharger (drivability)

If anything, blowers offer much better drivability (stock idle, no surge/bucking, less rpm, etc.) than the same car with a big head/cam combo...Of course, you already have the motor built with a nice 383 that is forged (which is good for the blower set-up).

It shouldn't hurt your drivability at all...But shouldn't he go with a much lower CR on that 383 if he chooses to add the supercharger?

Re: 383cid with supercharger (drivability)

Your compression ratio is way too high if you plan on strapping a supercharger. I would also swap your current cam for a more supercharger friendly one. Something like a 23X/23X .55X"/.56X" 114lsa. As long as you have a supporting fuel system and a good tune you should have no problem with the car being streetable.

Re: 383cid with supercharger (drivability)

2000LS1Z28: Do you think my heads/cam combo is big to drive every day?

- I said my CR and camshaft will change according to the forced induction type which I will choose.. i.e: CR will be around 9.5:1 - 9.0:1 and camshaft specs will decrease for sure.. I wouldn't go with a forced induction,I would just go with nitrous ,but now I changed my mind for that reason cam,cr,and injectors should be change. My injectors are 37 delphi high impedence ,but I think I should change them also..
- My heads will not be too big right? I mean if I go with a ATI supercharger engine will produce ~650-700bhp and at this power I can't believe my drivability will be good..
- Last thing, with which one should I go? P600B P1SC or P1SC2 (twin high flow intercooler) and how much psi?

thanks a lot for replies

d1sc, 600-700hp dont mean it cant be streetable especially with sc
