383 worries

i had a 383 lt1 built with forged eagle crank, 6" h-beam rods, and pistons, 10.5 cr, cc 503 cam. 1.6 rr, 30lb inj, 58mm tb, ported/polished heads, hooker lt's, tuning by pcmforless. its a 2 bolt main. i heard that a 2 bolt main was only good for no more than 450hp and rev at most 6k without any problems. is this true? how much hp will i be making with my setup? would it be safe to run 100 shot of nitrous? will the 2 bolt mains be enough?

Youll be ok....other parts will fail before the 2 bolt mains do.

I'm making over 550 horses with a 2 bolt main and stock LT1 crank, but with arp bolts. So I don't think it's true that 450 horse is the limit.
My next motor, if I ever destroy the one I have now, will have 4 bolt mains along with a forged crank in it. At these power levels it makes a lot of sense to have these upgrades.

i told the shop that i wanted arp main bolts and head bolts. they only put in the head bolts. when i asked them if they had put arp main bolts, they said no because i never told them. i havent installed the engine yet. you think i should take it back and have them put the arp bolts? all they have to do is remove the oil pan right?

do you think my setup will withstand a 100 shot without putting arp main studs or bolts? all bolts are stock except for arp head bolts.

Hard to say dude, some people have luck some people don't. Not something I would have risked though I would AT LEAST get some ARP Main Studs in there. 2 bolt mains are pretty lame dude as far as holding power and spinning high Why did you let them half a$$ it?

Atta boy

More than likely the dip stick is hitting the main cap. You will be luck to even be able to keep the dip stick when you get the 4 bolt mains on though.. I had to delete mine! No bigge though, that's what the low oil sensor is for

Have you ever seen the inside of an engine?

motor needs to be taken completely apart, drill, caps/block milled, line bored/honed, then cleaned up, then reassembled
