383 performance numbers

I have my hands on a '94 LT1 block. It is bored .030 over with splayed 4 bolt main caps. If I get a 383 stroker kit, CC306 cam(I already have it), a set of 1 3/4 primary headers, cold air intake, a good tune and an LT4 conversion what kind of ballpark rwhp/rwtrq figures can you guys give? Any or you guys with a 383 stroker feel free to speak up. Any help you guys can give would help me a lot in deciding what to get. Thanx.

Save money by not getting the LT4 kit, get some regular LT1 heads and get a good P&P job on them

Lloyd heads + cc306 and 383 should be good for around 400rwhp.

Dan94Z28RO Jun 10, 2004 03:08 PM

I have been reading some of the most recent posts and that is what it seems like. But dont LT4 heads have more p/p potential than the LT1 heads? Know of any body that does a good job on heads?

Your build-up is similar to mine which is in process--4 bolt main, CC306 cam, long tubes, etc. I have LT1 heads by Lloyd Elliott, forged pistons, Comp Cam valve train, Scat crank, etc., and the conservative estimate is 415-425 rwhp! I considered the LT4 swap, but after doing alot of research, decided that LLoyd's head work is far superior and more cost-effective. Hope this helps. Thanks!

What kind of a budget are you on? If money isn't a big issue, don't bother with LTx heads, and go straight for a set of AFR 210s or 220s. You won't regret your decision.

No kidding , if you have the money have lloyd port some LT4s or some AFRs for you.

As mindgame and Bret will say, spent your money where it counts, good machine work and induction.

Hey Grip: do you know what the ballpark est is for how much Lloyd will charge for a port job? I'm curious because I bought some heads I thought were aluminum but turned out to be cast iron and I want to port the sh!t out of them...

Zigroid Jun 11, 2004 02:50 PM

lloyd's heads range from like $750-1300.

I have heard of Lloyd before on this board. I don't know of any of his work though. I have a mild 355 with TEA heads. I paid about 2000 for the heads. The car went 10.98 with a decent tune. I would recommend TEA to anyone. My heads flowed 271 on the intake and 231 on the exhaust. Oh yeah and they are only LT1 casting.

http://z28racer.com/flownumbers.htm here for the flow chart.

Just my input

I know a lot of people has used Lloyd Elliot ported LT1 heads and i had a set of LT1 heads and Intake done by him about 4 years ago, and his work was not very nice at all, and the only reason i know i had Trevor Johnson of Rockwall Tx look at them because i just done a rebuild on the motor and had the heads flowed and they flowed 254cfm @ .500 lift @ 28" and i watched him flow them, and the flow sheet i got from Lloyd was 282cfm @.500 lift @ 28" so HUM some thing dont add up and Trevor also noticed the heads were never surfaced and that shoud be done on every 1600 head job. I can let every one know that the heads are better than stock but not 1600 dollars better. Trevor Johnson will not even touch them so i had to use them but i did get them resurfaced and a valve job. But i hope Lloyds work is better know on the LT1 heads now.
I recommend Trevor Johnson cylinder heads they done a Heads and cam on an 96 M6 LT1 using LT1 castings a 306 cam and bolt ons and made 398 to the wheels his heads wil cost 1650 plus your heads and will use Ferra 2.00 1.60 valves and all the best parts and on average flow sheet is around a true 290 cfm @ .500 lift. And i just seen a set of LS6 heads he done were a little over 355cfm.

WS Sick Jun 11, 2004 04:32 PM

If he is only getting 398 rwhp out of 290 cfm @ .500 lift heads , there is something wrong with the set-up.

I have a freind with a set of heads that only flow 263 @ .550 lift on a 350 with the CC306 he made 392 RWHP.

My setup right now is a 383 with LT4 heads and intake no P/P on the heads. FLP's, mezierre, and all your standard upgrades. The car put down 368hp and 380ft-lb with a dyno tune from pcmforless. That was with a comp xe 224/236/114. The heads are certainly a restriction on the motor. I had ordered afr's last june then they finally came in and had the wrong chamber size so now I have a set of tfs heads at the porters. You can certainly make good power out of the LT4 heads with a good porter such as TEA. I believe there was a car built by bret bauer last year that put down about 435hp with lt4 heads by TEA. AFR's and trick flow heads will certainly give you more potential it's all about how much you want spend.
