383 lt1 swap
Hey guys, I've been out of the LT1 scene for a good bit so I need some help to get my Z back on the road again. A local guy to me is selling a 383 LT1 in the following config below. I know its not the greatest racing setup but this will be a weekend toy to enjoy the T-Tops but still want some kick in the pants. Does look like it would be capable of 400 rwhp? Can that bottom end spin to 7k (to make the most use of the cam)? I would like to be able to keep up with the 5th gens and those pesky LS1 4th gens?
2 bolt LT1 block machined for clearance and bored .030 over. Eagle Specialty Products rotating assemble # B13454L specifies cast steel crank 3.75 stroke Speed Pro 12cc dished pistons 5.7 inch I beam rods. CC306 cam Hydraulic Roller Lifters. 5/16 push rods Lunati Timing Set Harland Sharp 3/8 roller rockers w/1.6 ratio. MSD Optispark and Coil Patriot Performance heads 195cc int port assemblies LT1 Intake with 32 LB injectors Thoughts? Otherwise i'll just look to rebuilding my current lt1 to a 355 with a LE 2.5 package. thanks, |

On e-bay there are 3 magazines that may help guide you .They are the August,September, and October 2000 issues of Super Chevy magazine with the 3 part series on the LT1 383ci. buildup.I'm wondering about the 2 bolt and if it can take 7000 rpm myself.Hope this helps.:)

Sometimes Amazon is cheaper.

I think you should beware the cast eagle crank. There are several stories of these things breaking in half.

Re: 383 lt1 swap
HP will depend on the heads. I couldn't find any flow numbers for the Patriots, and they are now called "ProMAXX" (Patriot Performance website has disappeared), and appear to only make 180cc and 200cc SBC's, no 195's. The dished pistons and the 58cc combustion chambers may result in lower than stock compression. There's always an argument whether the stock LT1 heads are 54cc or 58cc. Mine were 54cc +/-1cc.
Ditto on the cast crank.... not 7,000 RPM friendly. |
