355ci options
 

This is my first venture into possibly stroking to 355ci. I talked to a buddy of mine that went with all forged internals but kept his stock crank and just had it prepped and cleaned. The boring of the block to 355ci and having his stock crank prepped and cleaned cost him around $200.

I also have a few other buddies who have had nothing but trouble with their 383 set-ups...oil leaks...etc. Since I am a daily driver, a 355 set-up made sense to me...

Can anyone else offer some insight?

There's nothing about a stroker that makes it more prone to oil leaks. These come from bad machining and/or bad assembly. However, the LT1 has a couple of problem areas regardless of how carefully it is put together. Obviously, it's less expensive to reuse your stock crank. But if you're buying a new crank and pistons anyway, a stroker is the way to go. In general, increasing displacement is the least expensive way to add power and it doesn't come at the expense of drivability or durability, unlike most other performance enhancements.

Am I right in saying that if I were to stroke at all, a 355 would be the way to go and still have a good daily driver? I am aware that people have 383's in their daily drivers, but the 355 just appealed to me.

Any advise on specific forged internals to get for such a set-up?

A 355 is not a stroker. You get a 355 by boring the cylinders out 30 thousands. You use a stock crank for a 355. This is assuming you have an LT1 5.7L and not the 5.3L version of it (can't remember what it's called right now).
