355 rebuild Q & A
355 rebuild Q & A
I'm considering rebuilding my engine and going with a 355. What am I looking at as far as price and parts are concerned. I might spray it but only a 100 shot at most. would sock pistons hold up to that. Any replies are appreciated. Thanks

I am going the 355 route myself cause I will be happy with a mid 12s car. If you are going to spray it I would go with a forged bottom end even with a small shot.
The durability and peace of mind will be worth the little extra cash.

No you cant use stock pistons in a 355. You can use the crank though. I would reccommend new rods/pistons. I would honestly let someone else put it together as it doesnt look like you know what you are getting into. Building a motor is tedious work that needs to be hella accurate.
Winner is correct. a 355 is a 350 bored out .030 inches. The stock pistons will wobble in there and create many problems such as oil consuption, piston slap and probobly score the cylinder walls.
For what it costs to resize rods, just get some good ones. I suggest getting forged pistons at the least

btw- with new pistons you can acheive almost any compression you want
i also will be goin the 355 route, a buddy of mine spent right around 3500 for the colplete motor. forged B.E. with a set of heads by advanced and a 203 236 cam. and it sounds wicked. so i would plan on about 4- 4500 K. since you wount be building it yourself.
