does it matter if a person has a 10 or 12 bolt rear and is wanting to install diff. gears ie. 3.73 or 4.10?

no, just as long as you get the correct gears for the correct rearend you have many different choices of ratios

Question

ok, so if someone was selling 3.73's but for a 12 bolt while mines a 10 bolt, they would still work on my car?

Uhhh... No. You have a 10 bolt meaning there are 10 bolts in your ring gear. a 12 bolt has 12 of them(hence the name 12 bolt!). the 10 bolt you have is a 7.5" while a 12bolt is 8.5" I think.
