2002 camaro z28 m6

Hey guys good morning and afternoon. So to make a long story short I currently have a 94 z28 m6,headers,and pretty much all the regular mods you can think of coolant bypass, get delete etc. My other dream was to own a ls1 camaro m6 or trans am I'm really close to buying one as we speak, but I told the guy to let me wait n get more opinions. He wanted 12k. But he's willing to take 10,500 on it, I test drove it, all the gears are smooth except reverse sometimes when you try to go in it will grind and there's times it goes in nice.

I told him that it worried me, but he was saying to just make sure the clutch is all.the way in I did make sure I did that, and he also said it can be the RPM, but the RPM is st 800-900, but other than that the car passes smog (Las Vegas)no leaks, no overheating, a.c. blasts cold, it's all stock except short tube headers. And I did a car fax report and it looked good too. And clean title too and in the owners name

I appreciate any feedback on this guys or opinions before I do this. Thank you

Shoebox has the T56 service manual. There is a troubleshooting guide up front. Not detailed but shows 8 possible causes of gear clash (in general, not specific to reverse).

http://shbox.com/1/t56_service_manual.pdf

Even less activity here than back in 2023 when you posted last. Lots of “views” but very few responses.

Nothing to add to what Fred said, except that I love my ‘02 Z28 M6!

Nice and I bet all your gears are smooth, but I wasn't sure if this one that this guy is selling for 10.5 k with a reverse gear that grinds sometimes when put in is worth it. But I think I'll pass on it

I really haven't investigated this in modern manual transmissions, but in the old days, reverse had no synchronizers (and in even older days, first had none either). To negate any residual shaft momentum, you would put it into a forward gear before going to reverse to help prevent clash. If that works in this case, I would not be worried about the trans.

Rob…….. you struck a pleasant chord in my memory. Being a senile senior citizen, I learned to drive on a 1941 Ford pickup truck. Had a floor shifted 3-speed manual, with a tall shift lever. NO SYNCHROS at all. Had to learn to double clutch.

T56 has a reverse gear synchro. I checked your T56 repair manual. Figure 4-5, part 62

LOL, yeah I still have to double clutch into first on my 64 GMC pickup column shift. :D Ahh, the simple days, eh, Fred? Good memories.

Thanks for sharing the PDF. Honestly, I’m not very good at searching on my own, and I’ve been looking for it for a few days. But unfortunately, I found that my PDFs wouldn’t open after reinstalling my system. I had to convert them to a different format using a converter https://timesofmalta.com/article/pdf...rms-a2.1098065 from an article recommended by a friend who knows this stuff. Honestly, I was surprised at how easily I managed to do it and at least solve the problem at this stage.

What year Camaro do you have? What problem are you having with the T56 that requires the factory service manual
.
