1st Gen Intake Conversion to LT-1
1st Gen Intake Conversion to LT-1
I'm sure there must be existing information on this subject, but I have been unable to turn up much using "search" I'm wanting to know what is involed in converting a first generation small block style intake so it will work with the LT-1 motor. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.
I'm still looking for information as to what needs to be modified in order to allow a first gen intake to be used on an LT-1. I understand that the 4 inside bolts have a different pattern and therefore the heads need to be drilled and tapped for the new location. What else is necessary??? Thanks!
you need to either convert the head bolt pattern or convert the intake holes. Need injector bungs and fuel rail mounts added, you need to either plug the distributer hole or conver to a rear mount dist. You need a custom elbo to mount either your current TB or convert to a single bore TB. You need to make a new way to mount you TPS if you convert TB's. Some conversions can be made to fit under the stock hood, if yours doesnt fit you will need a new hood...
It can be done and the actual conversion to the intake can be moderately priced but all the little things add up and in the ends it gets expensive.

yes you just need to make some bolt hole changes to get one to actually bolt down. But there is just a ton of other stuff to do to make it work.
If you're just wanting to go carb then buy an LT4 carb manifold. It already has the right bolt pattern and makes life much easier.

I'm not sure when you say "there is a ton of stuff to do to make it work", what else it is that you are refering to, but I'd like to hear about anything else concerning the conversion.
I priced it out before I built my motor. When it was all said and done you will end up about $1500 in the hole. give or take a couple hundred. If you use a 90mm TB from what I have read you will not fit under a stock Z hood. You can make it all fit if you use a factory style 58mm or monoblade.
do a search for single plane and you will get a ton of posts about it. It just seams that there is no cheap way of doing it. I keep hearing people tell me "oh the conversion is cheap". Yeah its cheap for the intake itself but by the time you add up an elbow, TB, intake, fuel rails, regulator, fuel lines, sensors... ect you end up with a pretty big chunk. IMO there is no sense in doing the conversion to run a stock fuel rail and regulator along with a stock TB.... if you have all that stuff stock you probably dont need a single plane.
Sounds like your project will benifit from the conversion. It can be done. Lots of guys here have done it, but its not as "cheap" as everyone says.

This is just what I was looking for. Since I work in a machine shop it is now time to order a intake and start fabbing an elbow.
