1500 - 1800 rpm Stumble

My son has a 1995 TA auto trans with 72k miles. Car only has a K&N CAI and Hooker catback. Appears that the Opti, wires, and plugs are the orginals.

Last night it began to "stumble" between 1500-1800 rpm. There is no backfire. Pass 1800 rpm it pulls hard all the way to its redline. There is no SES light.

Any advice on where to begin troubleshooting?

Thanks,

DMark

Change the plugs and wires first... when you route them, make sure to keep them away from the manifolds as best as you can.

Real good chance the coil wire is lose or bad.
I have had this happen befor and a new coil wire fixed it.

Dude, the plugs and wires are 70k miles old, CHANGE THEM. A new coil wire comes with them.

Does it stumble after the motor is warmed up only or all the time? My car only stumbles for a second with the throttle romped and thats only after the motor has been warmed up. Some say it is the ICM getting hot and malfunctioning. Plugs a wires are just a good maintance idea and "might" solve your problem.

Agree..., ten years is also a good reason. Was planning on the plugs & wires during the header install but it looks like we need to R&R them as the next step after I check the O2s.

However, most of the plug/wire problems that I have ever had usally became worst as the rpms went up.

Camarokid24 - Its not the off-idle "blog" that is common to LT1s. This is a "stumble" that is always between 1500 to 1800 rpm. Once its pass that range it pulls good and hard all the way up to the redline.
