129,000 lt1
what do you guys think of buying a car ,lt1 with 129,000 miles. yay or nay.Loooking at 93 vette, body very nice, red, they are putting a new interior in it(seats and carpet).price 9995.everything stock.no warranty.Of course my mechanic would do a compression check, check sensors and modules for me.shouldnt that engine last 200,000 miles easy?to the naked eye water pump and opti looks original. thanks snareman. I would give my son the 93z and we would have 93z and 93 vette.

Hey dude,
i thought the same thing about the LT1. I bought a 96 z28 with 96000 miles and it is the cleanest (used) motor I've ever seen and I've had nothing but problems. Keep getting a 300 multiple random misfire code after i ran it about a thousand miles. I'm trying to get it diagnosed as we speak so really i guess it all depends on how lucky you are!!! |
129,000 miles
that sounds like optispark.the thing about that mileage is the car probably has had alot of owners.alot of things besides opti and waterpump can go out in a vette.1-climate contol,2-asr module(antislip regulator)3vettes are very expensive when things go bad.May just put a badass cam in mine. hell everything else has been replaced!

129,000 miles
oh by the way my opti in my z went out at 99,000 miles. first water pump then it took the opti out. replaced it with factory ac/delco unit with my msd cap and rotor on it. runs fine now!if its opti--parts ladi online cheapest I have seen. my 93 non vented was 319 shipped!

The price seems high for a 15 year old vette with high mileage. Otherwise, an LT1 can hit 200K no problem depending how it was maintained over the years.
|
The LT1 is a damn good engine IMO, my 97 Z has 157K on it & runs like it has 50K, it all depends on how it taken care of, also had a 95 Z with 144K & it ran strong too, so 129K is nothin for an LT1, but that price is on the steep side.

oil change history is a good thing to find out. I bought my 95 and after talking with the owner (ALWAYS MOBIL 1) I was confident about the motor (96k at purchase). I put a cam and heads in it at 100k and it is one of the cleanest motors I have ever opened up!
http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...965_7_full.jpg nevermind the media blasted heads look at how clean the inside of the valley is! There was no varnish or anything! very very clean |
Problem is, the chances of it being beaten on and not properly maintained are greater than a car that was taken care of, beaten on or babied. A lot of these engines have been abused and neglected and people just sell them when the problems start.

^ true, mine needed a clutch after I bought it
|
I think the price is high.

i have 176K miles on the 96 trans am at this point and its running fine. sure its got a nice exhaust leak, rattles like no tomorrow, suspension is soft and i finally had to do the opti around 165K(went through a huge puddle in a rain storm), but everything else is fine and still chugging. AC still works too. IF it wasn't raced or neglected, the major components are probably fine. price is high though.
