12-sec 1/4mile

What would it take in mods and $$ to make my close to stock Z28 run 12 sec 1/4mile ?

Re: 12-sec 1/4mile

some cars will run in the high 12's with full bolt ons and tuning, to have a solid 12 sec car you will need a bigger cam and valvetrain. So a short answer is about 2-3k at least on top of the car, if the car is in good mechanical shape unlike mine

If you want to spray 125-175 to get into the 12's you can do it for under 1K.

Re: 12-sec 1/4mile

Way back when my engine was stock internally and I had free flowing intake and exhaust, and basic rear suspensoin upgrades, I went 12.2 at 114 MPH with a 150 dry shot spraying off the line on the stock GoodYear GSC tires. No BS. I'm guessing at that point I had probably 4 grand in mods and that included the way over priced dry N.O.S. 5176 kit.

Re: 12-sec 1/4mile

with the help of some 4.10's and subframes and the current mods i have in my sig, i am hoping to run some 12.4's or better. In total i have about 2500-3000 in my car.

I have about $7000 (little over) in my car with the mods in my sig. and it better be CLOSE to a 12.0 car. I have not been to the track as of yet, but I will soon be going.

You could by a used n20 kit and run 12s. I bought my kit for 125 bucks used.

Or you could by some SLPs 1 3/4", 3" exhaust and muffler, CSI water pump, Moroso CAI, and turn up your shift points and run a high enough mph to run 12s. I ran 111-112 mph with those bolt ons and stock Maf and throttle body.

Re: 12-sec 1/4mile

For a solid 12 second car, I'd say a set of LTs, and a cam. Granted, you need supporting mods, such as rockers, valvesprings, and CAI. My car runs consistent 12.5xs @ 112 in the dead heat of summer, with me drving (means !good driver mod). Make sure you have a decent set of tires too. I'm hoping to crack 11s the way it sits on slicks. Pray it doesn't break again!

headers and a good catback might get ya there....if not add in some gears and that should do the job

Re: 12-sec 1/4mile

I see these posts and I wonder how are these cars so damn slow that they need cams to just break 12s. Either y'all cars are to heavy or not hooking, but a full bolt on LT1 should be able to break 12s.

Go tell Jordan Musser that...he ran a 12.7 w/ cai, catback and headers...those three mods w/ a 6spd should get you low 13's...throw some 4:10's in and a good driver and 12's are possible

Re: 12-sec 1/4mile

There are a few other things that will affect how certain mods influence track times. It's silly to say 'x' parts will get you 'y' times.

Track conditions, driver skill, weather conditions (incl. DA), and the basic state of tune for the car (regardless of mods), will all significantly affect how the car will perform. Want proof? See the sig of the guy who runs 12.93 @ 113+ mph. Not knocking him at all, just demonstrating that his car makes good power and he almost slipped into the 13's. It's not as easy as it looks, and whether the original poster will make 12's with 'x' mods will be significantly affected by factors he may or may not be able to control.

Re: 12-sec 1/4mile

Don't forget what recorded the time. I'm leery of some of the numbers of some of the smaller outlaw tracks. Personal experience tells me that a Vericom is up to a half second quicker than the lights at Indianapolis Raceway Park. Not trying to knock the numbers of anybody above.
For the record, 97 Z28 70Kmiles, dual cat LT1 auto, 245/60 bridgestones, K&N, Hypertech, 4.10s, Auburn pro-series. TOTALLY stock otherwise, pump gas. Best 13.76 @ 99 with IRPs timing (50+ passes). Vericom says low 13s. Currently installing headers and exhaust, and I don't expect to lose 0.8 seconds.

13.76 sounds slow. But it's enough to beat every (5) non-supercharged cobra mustang that I've lined up against.
