1 7/8" headers on an LT1 possible? or stepped 1 3/4" to 1 7/8" headers
OK,
I have a question. Is a true 1 7/8" diameter header possible on an LT1? Someone told me that the distance between exhaust ports on the LT1 heads isnt wide enough to accomodate true 1 7/8" headers. They said you can have a stepped design where its 1 3/4" and then after a couple inches it goes to 1 7/8" diameter, but not 1 7/8" from the get-go. Is this true or BS? |

What would be the benefit, the stock port is only 1.390" x 1.410".

I think Kooks offered their LT1 headers in 1 7/8" when they first started making them. I have a set of their stepped race headers on my bird. You might try giving them a call. :)

They are nice though. Too bad I wouldn't get any benefit from them otherwise I'd chuck my 1 3/4" Jet-hots for 1 7/8" with an x-pipe. |

The question at this point would be, what has been done to the engine that requires 1-7/8" full-bore headers?

I tend to agree with Injuneer. Mine are 1 7/8th stepped to 2in for high RPM and a big shot of juice.
I would never go this big on a true street car with a LTx. BTW Fred where did my other 9,000 posts go? Hech I was one of the first to break 1,000 posts in 98! |

About a year ago they purged the system. They claimed it was mostly "Lounge" posts, but I lost more than 20,000 posts (I was closing in on 50,000) and I NEVER post in the Lounge.

The reason I went with big pipe happens to be in the 1,200FWHP range ;) |

It will be a 383 lt1 9.5:1 pushing 20 psi boost thru a vortech ysi w/ meth injection and trick flow, stage III ported heads, w/ monoblade throttle body.
Prob a 230 ish blower cam. I was talking with LE about this after I posted this question and he definitely recommend true 1 7/8" vs. stepped. My HP goal is just north of 700 rwhp. |
