1.6 rocker install & lt4 valve springs
I'm planning on doing my rockers and valvesprings today. I have a couple questions.
Would it make more sense to leave my car up on my rhino ramps since I have to get at the crank pulley to rotate it and line the arrow up? To manually rotate the crank, do I use a socket on that bolt in the center of the crank pulley, or do I turn it by hand. Thanks guys. If I have any other questions during the install I'll post in this thread. :) |
If you can turn it by hand, then you must be arm wrestling champ of the universe, haha.
Use a socket, but if you take the belt off and at least some sparkplugs out, it will make it a lot easier. I didn't have mine on ramps because it would make it very hard to get to the rockers from the top. You can turn the crank from the top, though. |
haha that is what I thought. Thanks

I'm trying to figure out if im at 1 TDC or 6 TDC with the arrow at 12 oclock.
I rotated the crank clockwise looking at it from the front of the car, and the arrow past 12 oclock. I could see the #1 cylinder intake valve opening. That should mean I am at #6 TDC right? Cylinder 6 should be firing and 1 should fire on the next 360*? |
when i was adjusting my valves, i had the 2 mixed up. i thought i had 1 tdc but was actually 6. just make sure. if u have the wrong one up, you'll find out when u go to move the crank to the next piston.
i had my pulley off when i did mine and used longer bolts and pry bar to spin the hub |
