Unhappy 1/4 mile times, ran today 94Z Auto

Well I just ran my stock 94Z28 today, weather was hot, not very good racing weather. Anyways I ran a 14.315 @ 98.005mph with a 2.165 60foot, not very impressive. But my car is a stock LT1 with Auto(stock) and 2.73's in the rear. The weather was as follows Feels Like: 81 º Dewpoint: 32º
Barometer: 30.00 in and falling Wind: calm
Humidity: 17% Sunrise: 6:46 am
Visibility: Unlimited Sunset: 6:30 pm
The altitude was around 1600 feet also.
What do you guys think is this average or is there something wrong with my car? I was hoping for high 13's but could not get there, I also ran a 14.68 @ 97mph with the A/C on, forgot to turn it off. I know this wont impress anyone here but what should I do to get into the 13's without getting into the engine just bolt ons. Maybe just a 100nos shot and call it good I don't know, I just want a 13 second car and make it a daily driver...

Those numbers don't sound so bad to me considering the weather and a 9 year old stock 2.73 A4 car.

if some of the stock components are still stock (plugs, wires, fuel filter, i forget some other things) replace those. My car only had 50K when i replaced the fuel filter, and when i did, i think i gained 100 more HP (well, maybe not ) a good tune up will help some.

The 2.73 cars are usually 13.8-13.9 cars stock.

That's a good mph though, bone stock I ran a 14.619 @ 96.88mph

60ft of 2.493, I beat the LS1 SS till the 330 mark, it was a crappy night for everyone, the SS ran a 14.266 @ 100.71mph. I spun through most of 1st, then on the 2nd gear shift I got sideways and let off and got on it again. Gotta love it when you buy a car with about 4 miles of tread left on it. The temp that night was 65 with 77% humidity.

I still have the 180 t-stat and stock fan operation. I could not get the gauge below the 1/2 way mark on these runs, the engine was heat soaked. I heard the 2.73 gear cars can run 13's but the engine needs to be cold and the weather needs to below 70 degrees to do it. I think with 3.42's a 160 t-stat I should be in the 13's. The car loses alot of power when it gets hot, you can really feel the power go down on a hot day, I need to do something about that...

Just keep trying, you'll make it. My times in the sig, I have 2.73's too. I havent had a problem with the temperature, mines almost always halfway at the track too. What RPM are you launching at?

I have the stock Torque Convertor in it right now and no shiftkit yet. I do have a 26-2800 stall convertor and waiting for my HD-2 Shift Kit. But I hear on this board that it is a waste of time to do a convertor with 2.73's, What do you think? Should I do it anyways. The car leaves like a pig right now anyways.

*cough* bull@#&t *cough*

2.73 cars are dogs... The sad truth.

Either swap up to 3.23s or 3.42s.. I wouldn't go any higher than that.. Then you start trading off.

Don't even bother with a TC Not with those damn 2.73s living back there in that diff.

Evict them.. Immediately!

Your next step: I say choose either the 3.23s/3.42s like I mentioned, and go ahead with the shift kit. You will LOVE the way it turns out.

Go for a drive and you will =

Then, and only then.. Should you put that TC on. If you even feel you need to after that. The gears and kit should keep a smile on your face for a while.

He'll actually gain quite a bit more ET with a good torque converter(and keeping the 2.73's) than by upgrading to 3.23's/3.42's while keeping the stock converter. He'll sixty-foot better this way(assuming he can hook up), thus resulting in quicker ET's. 1/4 mile performance proves this over and over at the track. Definitely do the converter first and see if you still even want to upgrade the gears. With 2.73's, you'll still retain fairly good gas mileage. If you decide to switch the gears, I wouldn't even waste my time with the stock 3.23's. 3.42's or 3.73's would go well with a 2800-3000 stall for your car. And make the verter a little less loose during normal driving.

Trust me man, any A4 powered LT1 or LS1 with a 2800+ stall will have traction issues even with the stock 2.73's. Forget about any kind of street tires. You'll need some Nitto DR's at the track.

Ask this guy I know around here locally(IL) about his traction problems with a Vig 2800 and 2.73's in his '99 Z on street radials. They don't last real long.

I blaze my tires if I go more than 3/4 throttle off the line, and that's stock.
