I am looking into buying this car. I got the guy to drop the price $1100 to a grand total of 11,900. Car comes with everything you see in picture. Says the car runs/drives awesome. Anything I should look for?

Anyone in the Pittsburgh area who would mind checking it out for me? I'll pay for gas/tolls or whatever to do me that favor!

The biggest thing that you need to look for is verification that is isn't a clone. Lots of clones out there and only the vin and some research will tell.

As far as the mechanicals. You must drive it. If it starts up quiet and doesn't have any tics or rattles the engine is probably fine. Shift the trans really fast from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd if it clashed then the synchros are going out. If it doesn't then it's fine.

 

other than it being the ugliest spoiler and wheels i've ever seen.. looks like a good deal.

 

That spoiler is coming right off... don't worry. haha

I know all that garbage. Just the obvious checks. But I have a LT1 guy. So I would check for the more common things. Oil leaks and such things.

Was wondering if LS1s has similar traits.

 

No the LS1 is very leak free. You just need to check for excessive piston slap (if it goes away within the first minute it's normal) and the normal stuff that you'd check for in a used car.

 

The only thing I don't like about this car are the seats, rims, and spoiler.

I am going to sell the rims... but anyone have any idea what brand/size they are? Or even their value?

Seats have a nice tear in the drivers side.

Spoiler can come right off!!

What are your guys take on the color? I like it, but I think I am bias because of the car it's on. hahaha

 

Think the car is worth it? Guys at LS1Tech.com think the price is too high and the car was probably beat to death. Any opinions?

 

How could you or they possibly know? I have a 00 Formula that looks like a brand new car, only has 25000 miles on it and has been down the drag strip 800 times or more. You just have to go with your gut on a used car. That's why I said drive it.

I am trying to figure out if he has any cosmetic work done to it other then the spoiler, rims, and stripes.

 

Does he have the stock wheels and spoiler?

If you can confirm (via RPO code) that it's a WS6, that's a mediocre price. If it's a clone, it's worth maybe 10k. For $11,900, you should be able to get an '01 or '02. '01+ cars have several changes. Anecdotally, they seem less prone to piston slap, but I don't know what changes, if any, would have fixed that. They have the LS6 intake manifold, a different cam, and M6 models have a much stronger clutch.

 

He is putting on Z06 rims for me actually. Which I found out today. The rip in the leather and dent are both fixed as well. So the car is pretty much set!!

That gay spoiler is just a addon so I can just rip that piece off.

 

Z06 rims and a stock spoiler? Now all you need to do is confirm that it's a real WS6 (which I don't think it is -- that looks like the standard Trans Am spoiler beneath that gay add-on piece of crap).

 

WS6s and Regular Trans Ams have different spoilers?

How do I check if it's a true WS6? Would it show up in a CARFAX report?

 

There is no special spoiler for the WS6 package. If it's a Formula WS6 it has a Formula spoiler. If it's a TA WS6 it has a TA spoiler.

Get the vin and do a search of the poiniac enthusiasts sites, they'll know how to find out.

And it's got lowering springs on it.
