Will O2 simulators fix Check Engine light???
 

my check engine light came on and i got it scanned and it said it was the #1 and #2 O2 sensors or something to that effect...should i just get some O2 simulators or is there another solution...BTW i have long tube headers with an off-road y-pipe if that means anything...thanks

Bank 1 Sensor 1, Bank 1 Sensor 2, Bank 2 Sensor 1, or Bank 2 Sensor 2. Sims can fix the Sensor 2 problems, but if it is Sensor 1 on either bank then you need to buy new O2's.

it's sensor 1 on bank one and 2...so that just means i need to get new O2 sensors then and not eliminate them right??? the sensor has just gone bad??? thanks

You cannot use sims on the fronts!!!! I wouldn't reccomend using them on the rears either unless you've got no cats.

Why? i want to run cats and use rear sims, this way I don't need extenders or bungies to mount them behind the cats, and in the long run it will save money as i won't have to keep replacing bad O2's(not that they go fast) but once is all I'll have to do. To get them programmed out would cost more i'm sure than the sims, and i know my LT1 didn't have rear O2's, so I can't see why it would be a problem. From what I understand they are only there to tell if the cats go bad. What are your reasons?

I didn't say you couldn't, I just wouldn't. The car will run fine with sims on the rears but it's nice for the PCM to know what the cats are doing so they can set an SES to let you know something is bad or so it can adjust accordingly to keep it running rights.

I put a high-flow cat on my 2k1 V6 and the SES light came on. I put a 02 Sim on the back and the light still came on. That's when i did the stupid move of puttin a sim on Bank 1 Sensor 1 and reset the computer. Light came back on (obviously after that move). So I bought all new 02 Sensors for every spot, and light still comes on. So I've just learned to deal with it. If anyones got any suggestions let me know. Sorry to put my own problem on this thread.

Both Banks Sensor 1 you must have, and functioning properly. I would only use O2 sims on a car with an ORY.

I have the same problem right now with my 98 Z28. I have long tube headers and a duel catted Y-pipe. I think a Sim went bad and the CEL came on. Now it's not passing state insp. Would the O2 sims correct the CEL? And where can I get new Sims? Please help!

What is the specific code that turned on the SES light. That will tell you what you have to do to fix the problem.

I know I'll probably get scolded for 'thread from the dead', but this was the closest thing I could find by searching.

Just to be clear, Sensor 1 O2's give the computer feedback to control air/fuel mixture. Sensor 2 O2's do nothing at all except monitor the efficiency of the cats. Correct?

I have a 1999 LS1 with SLP long tube headers and dual cats. I'm getting O2 sensor codes and a cat code. I want to replace the Sensor 1 O2's with new, but replace the Sensor 2 O2's with simulators. However, I want it to run right. Is there any useful information that simulators leave the PCM guessing about regarding air/fuel?

What are the exact pre-cat (sensor 1) codes? Not all O2 sensor codes are always caused by faulty sensors.

We have owned and been driving the car for only about 2 weeks now. It was a lightning quick purchase that turned out to be a good one. However, due to the quick snatch, I know essentially nothing about the car's history. It appears to have been sitting for about 5 years, and the SLP headers are very old. Possibly on the car for most of its life.

Battery had been long dead when we bought the car, so it did not set codes until day 2 or 3 of driving.

I'm going to try a bottle of cat-clean before I spend any real money. I've used it before with good results. In any case, new O2 sensors are probably in my future, but rather than replace the SLP cats, I'd prefer to tune out the downstream sensors in some way.
