i have an 01 ss that put down 425hp before my TB and muffler! i am guessing i should be around 440, but thats just a guess...anyways my car has always had synthetic oil put thru it.

well, after the head/cam, i have noticed i am burning about a quart every 1k miles! did a leak down test and got 14%-18% (did it a few times).
talking with mikey from rapid motorsports he says its common that LS1s burn oil, but he doesnt like the test numbers. way too much in my opinion!
obvious anything over 10% is bad, but he insisted i go with a regular 10w30 motor oil and try a lucas oil sealant.
the leak is comng from the ring seals and mike claims its from added power!

so i am gonna try his suggestion, but i was wondering if anyone has occured the same problem. i have heard a couple bad stories about sythentic oils, but my understanding it is better for the engine.

btw, i religiously change the oil at 3k miles or soon there after!
i am looking for some sorta suggestion, cause the car doesnt feel as strong, but i am guessing its from the oil/fuel mixture burning!

Well I don't have any dyno #s but I run 116-120 in the 1/4 @ 3500 lb race weight. So I'm in the 400 area and I've always used Mobil 1 synth and I don't use any oil between track visits (track only car). Car has 25000 miles on it.

 

When I first bought my car I religiously used Mobile 1. I got the normal quart consumption between changes. I switched to Castrol GTX and the consumption fell off. I've been using the Castrol for 20K miles now and the car does not go through oil as fast.

i own a 2000 Z28 A4 with 48000 miles on it. i bought the car with like 38000 miles on it. the oil ive been using since ive had it was castrol gtx 10w-30. i havent had no problems at all yet. i know alot of guys swear by mobil 1 and synthetic but theres no way i can spend 40 bucks campared to 11 bucks especially i only work 4 miles away. i also change my oil every 3000 miles. i have heard of people switching from synthetic to regular. i also remember awhile back, i was at the grocery store and was reading i believe it was super chevy and in the tech question somebody asked bout the oil consumption or something like that and i believe the user uses synthetic oil and the tech guy said something it had to do with the synthetic oil. i cant rememeber. i was skimming through it...but i am happy with the castrol gtx.
