I would do a 400 unless you are planning more mods. Like wanna run 10's
You can buy a kit from summit....

Talking toa few tranny guys and they said that the only way to get the TH350 and TH400 in that car is to run it without the electronics controlling the shifts....he said it like it was a problem...so is it????

IMO NO, it should not be a problem running without the electronic transmission..............AFAIK, quite a few guys have done it. The only "problem" I can foresee is maybe the computer showing a "check engine" light or something since the tranny is out of the loop, but I'm sure that could be by-passed somehow (if that's even a problem??
). Also, using a Hypertech or similar programmer would have ZERO effect on the shift points & shift firmness, but with the old manual valve-body transmissions (TH350's/400's) the shift firmness depends on the shift kit you have installed, and your shift point can be wherever you want it to be
(and as well, they shift exactly when you shift them, not a couple seconds later like the 4L60E
).
I'm given a little thought to a swap to a TH350 one day if my transmission gives me a lot of problems too. A part of me would like the M6, but I really want a "quick" 1/4 mile car, and the auto is just way more consistent (and IMO, the TH350 would stand up to a lot more abuse than the 4L60E, and the TH400 would take even more than that!!
) The TH400 is the heaviest of them all, so that's why I'd lean toward a TH350 --- unless I was running Nitrous through an already ~500HP N/A engine!!!
then I'd want the TH400.
Hope that helps some............................sorry someone else has to answer the "for sure's" about the consequences of a swap.

Thanks for the POV! Do I want a non-lockup or lockup tranny is another question?
Looking at these, any thoughts anyone?

No prob.
Unless I'm mistaken, you can't get a TH350/400 with lock-up. I believe that they only started using lock-up converters with the electronic transmissions since there's obviously an electronic signal that tells the converter to lock under light loads (this is like fully engaging a clutch, and prevents any slippage of the torque converter to increase fuel mileage). I think the ultimate thing would be to have a TH350/400 with a Gear-Vendor overdrive unit, but they cost around $2000, which is more than twice the cost of Jeg's TH400, and 3X more than the TH350 alone!!
BUT, at least you could maintain some fuel mileage (cause otherwise you're losing over-drive altogether). Oh well, I guess it's just more "food-for-thought"?!

Get a th350/400 from a 1990 chevy 3500 it has the correct speedo hook up. You need to change the tail shaft and drive shaft. Use an m-6 bracket. Just get a mechanical lock up if you want lock up. Electonics mean nothing just leave them un-hooked. Ill be doing this soon as my 5th tranny blows.
