What about MTI?
What about MTI and other after-market suppliers? I'm just finally getting the mod bug so I'm going to probably start ordering parts left and right. It would be nice to know how you guys rank the rest of the suppliers in order.
Like which is the most popular? Best quality and service in general in your opinion? MTI, LS1 Motor Sports, Thunder Racing, SLP, etc, etc... How do they rank in order? |
MTI's great. IMO they've got either the best products or right there. Like for a started, go with a lid. MTI's known for their carbon-fiber and clear lids. You can't get a clear one from anyone else, plus they look sweet as hell-- i'm only a LITTLE biased since I have one ;) But no, MTI does great porting jobs too, I hear nothing but good things. MTI's got my vote.

me personally.. hmm
heheh MTI is local but I dont like them.. they are snobby and are known for doctoring they dyno numbers.. they arent even on my list.. |
Thunder Racing defenitly!!! I have ordered alot of stuff from them and they had no problem shipping to an APO and were always great to deal with!!
MTI was slow on shipping when I ordered my lids through them. Took almost a week for the to ship when they said the next day. |
I have MTI's lid and IMHO the fit and finish SUCKS!
It is about $5 worth of cheap plastic for big bux... The carbon fiber is the same, just has "carbon fiber appearance". The clear lid is known for hairline scratching and yellowing over time. Just a heads up from someone with MTI parts. Dave |
I hope your wrong about MTIs lid....
Well got my MTI carbon fiber lid a yesterday it looks sweet to me. How it will fit? I can't say really but it looks sweet. I hope your wrong about MTI's lid.

My MTI lid has worked great for over a year now. No problems! I've had no fitment issues with it and the k&n filter. I have siliconed my entire lower airbox around the FTRA, so I'm kind've picky about fitment issues. All the guys there have been extremely nice and knowledgeable. They have even helped me over the phone when I was working on a buddies LT1.

A friend of mine took his 98 LS1 there.. he was on a mission to beat my LT1 (this was a couple years back). He dynoed "low" so they talked him into a few mods to help him get to where he should be... He dynoed like 280's on an AUTO... thats about right on from many bone stock 1998-99 dynos.. They had him do a few mods and get to the 300's.. Personally, I think of any shop that tells you crap like that is doctoring dynos.. I know of a Porsche shop where one of the mechanics was my side mechanic.. the shop was owned by a pilot and he raced a highly modded 944 Turbo.. A customer purchased a chip and wanted before and after dynos on it.. They dynoed.. installed the chip then dynoed again.. Chip showed a loss of HP.. They then worked the numbers and told the customer they got gains and sent him on his way.. albeit slower... Now for the MTI case.. Went to a dyno day at Excessive with my LT1 and a friends L98.. dynoed.. was pleased with the numbers... Looked at local Fbody postings where everyone was complaining about their numbers... I called Dynojet and spoke to a tech and asked him the proper technique that should be used to dyno. He told me and it was exactly as how it was performed on our cars. Locals were saying that they prefer MTI's dyno because they dynoed higher over there.. If you are dynoing higher down the street 5 miles.. I think that I would rather trust the guys who got the unit, got trained and are fresh.. rather than believing some people that are known for getting you higher numbers. Thats the two reasons I am against MTI.. sure many people have friends there.. thats fine.. but I dont.. and I have no loyalites to any shop.. There is a new shop opening up.. I am waiting to hear from them.. They have a dyno and run Vipers more than other cars.. I just look for fair dynos so that when I do a mod, I can return and not be worring about someone doctoring the numbers to make them look like what I should be putting down.. Then I go to the track to match up the HP with the MPH... I am waiting for a dry day to get to the track.. if its been raining they dont open the scale... I want to know how much my car weighs.. |
i heard that mustang dynos will read slighlty higher than a dynojet. is this true? Could MTI have one
|
mustang dynos read lower..
MTI has an inground dyno.. The 224 I think its called. |
