underdrive pulleys
underdrive pulleys
I'm looking for mods under $500 for my 02 z28 a4. I have full bolt ons. Electric fans and water pump, at least new, are out of my price range. March dampener, ac, and accessory pulleys are at thunder racing for $230. Anybody have any feedback? Can I do this install at home with basic tools(no airguns or hydraulic lifts or that sort)? Is there a site with install instructions?
Re: underdrive pulleys
psst...there have been electric fans in Fbodies for over 2 decades
as for the pulley, i did it in a driveway with basic tools. i actually have some info on the installation on my website in the signature.
as for gains, i think they are more subjective than real. i'm sure they add a little power..maybe 5hp...but that's nothing you'll feel.
you say you have "full bolt ons"....how bout you list what you have and maybe there is something you've missed that we can suggest.

Re: underdrive pulleys
Don't know about LS1, but on my Lt1 I needed an air wrench to get the pulley off and on the alternator with the March 2-pulley set up---pulley wants to turn with the nut.JMHO
Re: underdrive pulleys
yeah i'd have to agree with greed.
the money for the pulley would be put to much better use if it were put towards a good high stall torque converter. even though you may not be able to do it yourself, the $250 for the pulley would probably more than cover the labor of installing the conveter at a decent shop.
and people have reported up to .5 sec drops in 1/4mi times with a good stall.
more than you'll EVER see from a $250 pulley!!!

Re: underdrive pulleys
ya i was thinking of doing the pulley too, but i've decided after my 400hp-ish jump in the near future (when i get a chance to install it) I'm going to save for a rock solid 12 bolt
