I chose the Camaro because of the extra seat in the back... sure itll be a death trap to some but hey... thought that counts! And even if the Vette is for shallow people... Who wouldnt want a Z06?? I would sure as hell not hesitate!!

i do agree that the LS1 is underated but i think the vette version is too. there are some diff specs on the vette engine that would make it stronger but not that much.

Back in '98... they took a bone stock 6sp vette and a bone stock 6sp Z. Vette dynoed 299rwhp and the Z dynoed 296rwhp. The f-body was underrated to keep the vette "top dog". I've never lost a drag to an LS1 vette.

i agree that on an engine dyno it would be the same, but only until the crappy f-body exhaust and intake tract were attatched. the corvette picks up some hp there, but loses it though the driveline, etc. i guess the answer would be both engines are capable of the same hp although in stock form the vette should have more. of course we all know that racing is what you put to the ground, not what you have at the engine so in that case, yeah they are about equal or even advantage f-body.

Well I would agree that the Vette and Fbody has around the same HP but I would have to say one thing, if I could have afforded a Z06 Vette, then I would have boughten that car instead of my Z... Too be honest I am not a big fan of the newer Vette body styles, my dream car would be one of three..

1. 63 Hardtop Vette Stingray w/ 327 375 HP M4 w/ Mechanical Fuel Injection..

2. 69 427 Vette w/ 4 speed...

3. 70 - 73 Vette w/ Big Block and M4...

or I would take one of the above cars either 63 hardtop (Rear Split Window), 69 - 73 Vette w/ Z06 LS1/6 Block w/ M6 and Posi 4.10 gears.....

These are my Favorite Corvettes besides the 50's.... but late 70's to present just is not a Vette too me... I did see in the Tradeexpress about 2 weeks ago, a sweet 63 Vette w/ Blown 427 that looked sweet but still 30,000 private party... Now if I could have pulled that kind of cash up front w/ no loan.. I would be driving that Vette... I love my Z but I would love to have either above and hell let me throw another sweet Fbody in the Mix 69 Camaro Z28 w/ 302 Small Block (on paper said HP was 290 but in reality was around 390 HP)...

the 302 sure in the hell wasn't 390hp. i have seen a dyno sheet of one dyno'd with the stock exhaust, air cleaner, etc on it and it was 320 dialed in. there is a reason that car only went 14's at best stock.

uhh..

WS6/Camaro SS - 27 or 28K

Z28 - 23K

Corvette - 41K

I don't see where the 25K difference is/was. Corvettes are not THAT expensive. And, if you bought a new SS or WS6, you dropped some coin.

Are we talking about Z06s now? That car is a good deal for 50K. Better that than a Lincoln Navigator..

ohh

FWIW, when I had my Formula, I used to make up for the superiority of the vette's performance by outdriving the 50 year old man in the other lane. There are a ton of vette drivers that aren't "car guys" in the traditional sense. I'm not bashing on them though..just sharing. I never lost a race to a C5, and I like to go from a roll..

Ive seen some C5 vettes priced higher than a damn Z06!! Hell a fully loaded Hawk is around the same price as a Z06!! I wouldnt say a vette is $25k more than an f-body... $20k seems more like a reasonable amount... and $28k for a WS6? When they were new off the lot, There were none that i saw which carried a price lower than $32,000. Hell my SS had a price tag of $37000

yeah..I felt as though I was being a little conservative on those f-body prices.

I have seen WS6s over 30K. But I haven't looked much at vette prices. Online, I have seen that 40K figure tossed around.

Up here in Canada they have a brand new 2002 Z06 vette that retails for $78,000 Canadien dollars. It's advertized for $62,999 and will take $60,000, That's about $40,000 US. My new firehawk retailed for $45,000 Canadien dollars and I recieved the year-end special for $38,000 canadien. That's about $26,000 US. These cars were made up here and I would consider coming up from the states and buying here. We used to come down and buy in the US but it's not worth it right now.

What "specs" would you be referring to?

Cool

They are the same basic engine. The cam specs were posted on LS1tech for all years of both Vette and F-body and there are some tiny differences. The Vette has better exhaust, but loses HP through the IRS, so they will still be the same on the dyno. Vettes are lighter and have a better coefficient of drag, so all things equal, they should edge out the F-body, but it still boils down to the launch.
