underated ls1
underated ls1
How many think that the ls1 engine in the f-body puts as much as the one in a vette? I would be even with vettes until I started up the mods. I think that the ss and ws.6 has 350-360 from the factory. Am I not alone.
Yeah, it's a highly agreed upon "fact" (or belief?!
) that the F-body LS1's are way under-rated compared to the 'Vettes. The proof is when guys dyno their stock F-bodies, and they put over 300HP to the wheels
. For a car that's only rated at 305-310HP at the crank, it's amazing that often times ~310+ HP goes to the wheels?!
In a nut shell? You're right

Ahh yes... Tis true that the F-bods push out the same as a C5 vette. Theyre heavily underrated, mostly because the Corvette is Chevrolets flagship and Chevy doesnt want the people to know that their pony car has the same HP as the Vette
Look at the Dyno sheets! most come from the factory with 300-320rwhp! Thats 345-370fwhp!!!
Conservative rating... I guess....

Some of the specs and parts are a little different on the two engines, but I think the Fbody puts out at least pretty close to the same numbers. The vette might get a little more flywheel which it manages to lose with the IRS and rear transmission, but all and all for the most part I think the engines are very comparable in stock HP.
Everyone talk about the fact that in a straight line an Fbod is about equal with a vette, but the fact is that the vetter will own any camaro or bird on a track. The money people pay for a vette isnt for the drag racing, but to be able to throw the car into a turn at 100 and not sweat it. The corvette is far superior in performance than any stock fbody, and this is why it costs more. For those of us that have driven porsches, bmws, mercedes, and the like appreciate a car that can handle as well as accelerate.
Vette magazine did an article in 5/02 called "Power Plant: Behind the scenes of the St Catherines Engine Assembly plant where the Corvettes Aluminum Heart is Built" (which is somewhere online) which lists all the different specs and parts with lots of pictures of the vette, F bod and Z06 motors. Pretty interesting. Forgot where I got it. Might want to try www.vetteweb.com

All the guy wanted to know is if the LS1 from the F-body put out the same power as the 'Vette, which I think we can all agree, it does.

That's not the ONLY reason. The Corvette also costs more because GM isn't stupid, and they know that there are many shallow people out there who will gladly pay more for the Corvette, simply because it's more bling-bling than an F-Body.
Same thing for Porsches, Mercedes, BMWs, Ferraris, etc. At least half of the people driving around in them are in those cars because they want OTHER people to see what they're driving.
