Trans Fluid and Differential Fluid

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for me in regards to finding a location that is respectable for this. Like Jiffy Lube, Pit Pros, LubePros, etc. Also, does it matter if they put in valvoline or penzoil? Any suggestions would be helpful. Also I posted a message about a funny creaking sound coming from the rear axel and I was told that means I need to change my differential fluid. I'm confused about this because Pep Boys quoted me $80 -150 for diff change and everyone else said $30-$40. Help! Oh by the way in case you haven't figured it out...I'm just a helpful girlfriend trying to get something for my boyfriends birthday (TODAY!) so I thought I would concentrate on gifts for the Z. Thanks for your help.

Welcome !! http://web.camaross.com/bb/biggrin.gif

$80.00 - $150.00 sounds way outta line for a diff change - plus, the quick lube places are unlikely to have the additive you need for the rear. I believe that is a dealer item only - someone will correct me if I am wrong.

It would be worthwhile to call a dealer & get a price. http://web.camaross.com/bb/wink.gif

I must say, it must be nice ! http://web.camaross.com/bb/wink.gif to have a girlfriend take care of the service work - in my household, that's my job !!! http://web.camaross.com/bb/biggrin.gif

I picked up some POSI additive from a local parts store for 6.99. At the dealer I think its like 20.00 or 25.00 bucks. Let your man change his own fluids. If you want to get him something good get him a FTRA or something like that. That what I would want before some fluid change. Who knpws that just me?

If you going to do a diff fluid change. there are some things you need to know. First GM says to use synthetic Oil 75w90 and if you have a limited slip diff you need an additive. So if you take it somewhere make sure they DO IT RIGHT. I dont think oil change places use Synthetic unless you ask.
The aditive is GM part number 1052358

Thanks for all the help guys. I whimped out and went the "woman" route. I got his Z28 hand waxed and leather conditioned. It worked out cuz he was surprised, he was expecting his fluids replaced. NEXT>>>> buying him a car audio system :O
