Traction Control Questions
Hi All,
I've owned two LS1 Camaros, the 1st was a '98 Z28, the 2nd an '02 SS, both 6-spd, and both with traction control. Now concerning the traction control option, do you get better times with or without it activated? 2nd, and this is more of a comment than question, the other day I was getting on the SS pretty hard and it was obvious the wheels wanted to spin and did for a second, the traction control activated and it felt like there was a brick under the gas pedal, wouldn't let me accelerate, the "low traction" light was on and so I let off the gas and things mellowed out, however the "low traction" light wouldn't go off and I couldn't give it more than 1/2 throttle??? I pulled over, shut her down, waited a few seconds, fired her up and everything was fine, light went off and car ran normal. What are your opinions on the traction control and has anyone had similar experiences?
Thanks everyone.......Brent

I have a stock 99 trans am with an A4 with the traction control option. When I get on it hard it will break traction for a moment in 2nd and the light will come on. You will get better times with traction control off becuase when it detects wheel spin it cuts off the amount of gas being fed to the engine, so that is prolly why your pedal became firm.
Thanks for the post, thought it was strange that it wouldn't reset automatically.... Thanks again Man!! Later Buddy.....

I believe to deactivate it you need to come completely off the pedal for a few secs til the car senses that all is ok, then the light will go out.

When the traction control activates, it will only brake until the wheel slippage stops. The light will remain on for 3 seconds afterwards.
There is NO need to let off the gas unless you're constantly spinning the rear tires.
It sounds like your TC system was malfunctioning.
In the rain, say I'm nailing it up a hill. The TC will put the brick under the pedal and for a second I'll be barely moving. I won't let the pressure off the pedal. After a second the system will disengage and I'll start moving again. If I'm naling it hard enough to slip the wheels again, the whole process will repeat.
If you have to turn your engine off to reset the TC, something is messed up on your car.

the tcs is great for racing on the street, just hold the throttle wide open, at the track i would turn it off.
just dont try to spin the tires off it on the street when racing, i take off from an idle, then when i speed shift into 2nd, it only chirps the tires instead of laying a 15 footer.

Thanks Man, I haven't had a chance to take her to the track yet and very rarely turn the tc off. I did once and all hell broke loose, it was pretty cool! Thanks for the post! Later..........Brent
