Question Tq. Management

What is it? How does it work? Is there a difference in the car without it? Does it's removal affect performance at the drag strip and if so, by about how much? Will the driveline components last less time without it? Thanks.

I'm no expert on TM, but essentially it is the PCM retarding your timing at the shift points (by about 27 degrees) on an A4 LS1 - it's different for other vehicles where cyliinders will be shut of, etc... That is why when you ATAP or dyno you will see big drops in power at the shift points. I am uncertain how much good or harm would be caused by its removal. It is designed to preserve the tranny. I wouldn't expect a gain of more of 0.01-0.03 seconds off for its removal, but I could be wrong.

John at HPAparts told me that torque management might have a problem with the 3400/2.0 I ordered b/c of the low STR (i.e., SES light, but not sure which code though. ). I'ts nothing 550 bucks from carputing won't fix though.

Go chat with "Neustrom" on LS1.com forum. He has a 02 SS A4 with a stall ect.... and the tork management removed. He gained a couple tenths at the track with it removed!!

I have ridden in his car with and without . When he had it taken out....it holds you in the seat from the 2-3 shift. Thats around 90mph for the A4 I think...

He runs 12.4's @ 106

Hope that leads to a answer for you

A couple of tenths from the torque Mgt alone? I find that very hard to believe. There must have been some more significant tuning involved as well, such as leaning out the fuel mix/raising timing. The elimination of TM won't gain you that much.

just because its an option, doesnt mean its really there
Its part of the A4 shift firmness table..
ALL LS1 computers have this table because the same computer can be used with the A4 or M6.
