ive read somewhere that a torque in a higher RPM produce the most power to the engine, means better performance.
if this is true i have the following question:

a stall torque converter for the LS1 engine produce peak torque at 3000RPM, when the Z28 comes with peak torque at 4000RPM.
how is that enhance performance ?

i am sorry if its sounds like a silly question.

Well, I don't know exactly what the torque curve would look like for an LS1, but I imagine that it starts making better #'s around ~3000 rpm, even though the peak is around ~4000 rpm (or 4200??). Since the factory stall speed is somewhere around ~1800 rpm, by installing a 3000 stall converter, you let the engine get more into the torque curve before it locks and puts power to the wheels. For argument's sake, let's say the LS1 makes 200 lbs/ft at 1800 rpm (totally hypothetical?!) --- with the stock converter, that's the torque that the engine is making when the converter locks. Now let's say at 3000 rpm that the engine makes 300 lbs/ft --- that's what will be put to the ground when a 3000 stall converter locks instead of ~200 lbs/ft. ***I'm totally "guessing" on the numbers though***.

Regardless, the motor will be making more torque and horsepower when the converter locks and puts the power to the ground, so that's why there's an advantage. For normal applications, there's no need to stall until the exact point of the highest torque produced, because then you'll be limiting the actual useful rpm's of the engine. You just want to keep the engine in the best part of the power curve.

i know the higher is better, but does the 2200 make any different ?
what the current torque rpm on my car ? how can i tell ?

The most accurate way is a dyno. Then you can see when your car really starts to make power.

Which converter would be best??? That's upto someone else to say, cause I don't have personal experience with them myself, but as a rule, guys seem to run anything from 2500's - 3600's for street driven cars. 2800-3200 I think are the most common. Then, you've also gotta look at the price, because I'm sure that the higher the stall, the higher the cost?:think: Wait 'til some of the guys with TC's get in here..........I'm sure you'll get more info:cool:.

on my Z max torgue is at 4750 RPM's. I have a vig 3200 stall. Also just a note if you get a stall get a trans cooler. :cool:
