too much engine heat?
My 2002 z28 heats up pretty damn fast, I turn the car on and drive down the block and back, the engine is letting off a lot of heat, is this normal? My dad told me the car gets too hot. Is this ok, do I need a different thermostat? How can I fix this? Thanks for your help. :D

Re: too much engine heat?
From what i understand you can get thermostats that work at an earlier temp.
Does the gauge stay in the middle or does it shoot up? |
Re: too much engine heat?
My car would warm up very fast with my long tube headers. But never overheated at all.
I just changed my thermostat to a 160*, and changed the fan setting, now it takes a little longer, and runs cooler. |
Re: too much engine heat?
My temperature gauge reads normal, down the middle, but I can feel all the heat, and I want to know if that is normal for this car? Where can I get the 160* thermostat? How do I reprogram the fans? Thanks guys. :D

Re: too much engine heat?
Any parts store carries a t-stat. You can pay over $40 for a name brand or under $20 for the house brand.

If you can find a tuner in your area, they can reprogram the fans for you. I also believe the hypertech units will do this also. But if you are going to spend the money on the hypertech, just put a little more cash and get the tune. |
Re: too much engine heat?
Slp alsp makes a 160 stat and a fan switch that way u can turn fans on manually and still have them come on at stock temperature the stat is 60 and i think the fan swithc as 39 my ss always runs at 210degrees i am getting the stat also and i made a fan switch

Re: too much engine heat?
When I did a water pump R&R on my red WS6, we replaced the thermostat to a 180 (I beleive the factory ones are over 200), and it did nothing for it. You'd most definately have to tune the fans to come on at an earlier setting to really make a differance.

Re: too much engine heat?
Stock Thermostat is actually a 195 but fan 1 kicks on at 222 degrees and fan 2 at 234 degrees these cars are made to run hot unrealted to performance reaseons also cuts down life of motor get them hot stats out
