Ticking Noise?

Whenever I start my car when it is somewhat cold and I drive it, for about the first 5 minutes I hear a clanking noise in the engine around the 1500-2000 rpm range. After it gets warmed up it doesn't do this anymore and it's only between those rpm ranges as well. Does anyone know what this is or if it's something severe?? thanks LS1 FOR LIFE!

Re: Ticking Noise?

Is this something to worry about or is this normal for when it's warming up?

Re: Ticking Noise?

Is it something really serious if it only happens when its just for the first 5 minutes of running or is this common? I do have a warranty on it with 100 deductable, but is it worth the time?

Well I would not worry about the piston slap unless the noise is there constantly. As long as your car is running fine, no loss in gas mileage and your car is not using a 1 quart every 1,000 - 1500 mi. Then I would just get used to it.

yep, I have to agree that it sounds like piston slap. My ls1 has 111k miles and it is horrible on a cold start. It might burn 1/2 quart of oil in 3k miles so I'm not to worried about it. I've just learned to let the car run for a few min before I drive it.
