SS Owners and Those With SS Hood/SpoilerPlease Chime in!

How is the "gawk" factor of the SS compared to the Z28? I'm considering the hood and spoiler and am wondering if people ever come up to you and comment on your car in public in a way that the Z does not get recogniozed. Oh, and if yes, is this a good thing or a bad thing. I know that for me, I love the look, but am not sure if the extra attention (if any) would be good or bad???? Thanx for your input.
Tom

I've gotten many compliments on my SS. The first complimet was the first day I bought it. I was driving the car home, and stopped at a rest stop (let the GF use the ladies room), and an older gentleman said to me "that's a pretty car".
But I'm not saying I would not have gotten these compliments if I had a Z28

ive got a v6 with an SS hood and I get just as many compliments as my dad does who has a green Z with corbeau seats. (Ill get my seats soon). Before I got my hood I only got compliments bc my car was black.

Seems like every place I take my SS,someone always talks to me about it. Even mustang owners, which surprised me. Twice, someone asked me if it was a "real one",or made with aftermarket parts, that ticked me off a bit. Mostly good coments though.

People always look when stopped at a stop light.

I've had people go out of their way to give me thumbs up, tell me it's a sweet looking car, ask me about whats under the hood, etc etc etc.

I cant seem to avoid it, I could be going to get groceries and someone stops me to chat about their old Camaro...

The SS is definetely an attention-getter.

I get the same thing. People just love these cars. Everyone seems to have mucho respect for SS's. Back when I had my Z28, I didn't get nearly as much attention as I do with my SS.

Nothing's better than dude's driving mini-vans giving you the thumbs-up. You look back and see seats full of kids, and just think "poor guy"

Girls love em. when me and my buddies go out, they all have foxbodies that are built faster than my car but everyone crowds around my car to talk and compliment, they think SS's are untouchable but we all know better. Im not the person that wants a sleeper or one that could be confused with a V-6, i want the world to know and like my car. Nick

It seems that the SS badge has a bit more "attention-getting" factor than a Z-28. When I got my car and was showing everybody, their first reaction was "Oh....an SS....nice!"

I also have some chrome "bling-bling" wheels, hehe. I think that helps too.

ive never owned a z so i can't give you a side by side comparison. but from my experience, those who don't know much about camaro's give me instant respect and attention over z's.

girls love em hehe. practically got asked out a few days ago by some chick who liked my car. 10 bucks says she couldn't tell you the color of my hair .

ive had a few ex vette owners come up and talk to me about my car as well.

the ss seems to have a distinct "cool/instant respect" advantage over the z.

I don't get that kinda attention. I have an SS, and when I turn my underbody lights, and interior neons on, I get a lot of thumbs up. Other than that, not much. EVERYONE around here thinks their cars are fast. Even the Honda's, Toyota's, you name it. I just finished up a FLP header install. Can't WAIT to see how it feels/runs tomorrow. I'm sure I'll get some more looks then. It'll finally sound like it has some power.

The SS factor is true. I purchased my 2001 Z in August. Whenever I tell people "I bought a Camaro" Everyone responds "SS" then when I say Z28 there is a very disapointed look in their face. Obviously this is because people do not know much about Camaro's and think that the SS is alot faster. I have installed a factory replica of the ram air hood and made it functional. It claims to add 15 hp however I do not notice a difference. I have never dynoed the car so I wouldnt know how much it really adds. However, it distrurbs me greatly that people are very dissapointed when I mention my purchase of a Z. It is only when they see the car that they are impressed with the hood. But without actually seeing it, their reaction really does get on my nerves. I had some guy actually tell me "You shoulda bought an SS dude their like a bazillion times faster." When in reality the difference is only 15 hp. Oh well looks like Z owners have to put up with this.
