SLP 1.85rr + LS6 intake = 25hp @ the wheels?

is this a logical gain from these two mods combined?

1.85 ratio roller rockers with new springs, and an SLP ls6 intake installed on the car in the sig.

I have a ported tb loudmouth and lid, then i put on the slp ls6 intake and gaine 1 rwhp but 10 rwtq depending on other mods you have you will gain more or less but you should see close to 25 rwhp or so with those 2 mods especially if you have headers.

see that's my problem...no headers yet...

i know i should probably get them, but i really don't have the means to install them. i'd be doing it in my driveway, mostly alone. having to jack the engine up or have thefront of the car sky-high is gonna be tough.

i plan for them eventually, but right now...i think its not feasable.

all i have now is an offroad ypipe

would i be better off going through the headache of shorty headers, or possibly middies although i hate to remove the orp i already have, and ditching the LS6 intake for the time being?

what do you think would yeild more power?

ls6 intake + 1.85 rr

or

1.85 rr + shortie headers (with the orp i already have)?

yeah. way too many people underestimate the power of the dark side... err.. I mean math.. Roller Rocker ratios help big time.. not only will better rockers move easier but the mathmatical advantage is defiantely one that will be felt..

the LS6 intake... well its said to give a bit of a gain.. came factory on my car.. I dont know how much of its gains but the rollers should not only give you more gain but give you a smoother and quicker accelleration..

psycho...i agree

and the more i read about it, and think about it...i think i'll get better gains with the shorties (or mids) than with the LS6.

specially since it will compliment all the other mods a bit better.

ls6 intake is about the same $$ as coated 00-02 Edelbrock headers, and i think combining those with the orp i should see a good gain.

i honestly think the shorties get a bad rap because people are installing them on the stock Ypipe. where longtubes get new orp or high flow cats at least.

you may get 20hp from LT's and the orp, and less than 10 with shorties on stock Ypipe...but combine the shorties with the orp and i'd be willing to bet you'll get close to 15hp...
not a bad compromise to keep clearance and to have the quick option to switch to stock Y for emissions.

slp 8.5 rockers

Keep in mind the SLP rockers (PN: 53300), although in the form of a power increasing ratio (8.5) aren't true roller rockers. They are the same form as the OE rockers and advertised as being such by SLP. Their ad indicates they are: ..."based on the stock rocker and built by the OEM manufacturer, using the same high-quality materials and processes." I'm not nocking the product for what it is - it is a successful and power producing mod. I'm just clarifying that it doesn't have true roller function design at the point where the rocker pushes the valve stem.

Harland Sharp, makers of true roller rockers (rollers at the pivot point and the valve stem) has just started making rollers for the LS1 in the OE ratio (1.7) and an increased ratio (1.8). Granted it's five one hundreths less in the ratio and consequently will push the valve a smaller amount. Nevertheless, I'd think these would have the potential of making more power even though of a lesser ratio through the benefit of friction reduction. IAE, there would be the satisfaction of knowing you put on the best. I believe the HS rockers ($330.99 through here: http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=120681) may cost less than the SLP ones ($379.95). It all depends on the ratio you need. BTW, I don't know if other makers of true roller rockers make them in an 8.5 ratio. Just giving the info I am sure exists.

They're adjustable too if that's on your requirements list. They aren't mounted two to a shaft for stability, however.

The adjustablity factor certainly increases the price ($500 beans!), but you're getting the 1:8.5 ratio.

there are two sets of comp cam rockers...the first is not shaft mounted. EDIT: sorry misread your post...thought you said they were shaft mounted...my bad...carry on

and they sell the kit that includes the (required) ls6 springs and retainers for $550

the slp rockers with the springs sell for $550-575

so the price is nearly identical

the yella terra rockers are shaft mounted (scroll down), and are $500 but don't include the required springs

the pacesetters tuck in so well you will hit something else before you hit a header

i did headers in the driveway with a jack and jackstands, its not that hard to do, just alot of time

the rockers are expensive, as is everything with the LS1

but $600 (includes all misc stuff) for about 20hp...i've seen worse.

and the added benefit is that you don't have to worry about the stock rockers falling apart like many have experienced.

for someone like me who can't do a cam install (alone and not sufficient room/tools) and can't afford to pay someone to do it...rockers that increase the lift and drop some frictional hp loss is a close compromise.

well after some more research and some number crunching...

about $525 give or take for pacesetter LT's and 3" ypipe...all emissions hookups and coated.

figure i can sell my current bassani orp for maybe $100...

that makes the LT project very reasonable. and the power gains are undeniable.

i guess my next big purchase (this week ) is gonna be the LT's from the special at Texas speed.
