RPM limiter

Last time I ran the 1/4 mile I tried finishing in third gear, however right before I crossed the line I was at about 6000 rpms, my car stoped taking fuel and made the same jerking that it makes when I hit my speed limiter, which is at 118 mph. Anyway, how high does a stock LS1 goes into the rpm range is it 6000rpm. And I am getting a bigger cam within the next month, which will probably peak at around 6600rpms, so do you have to buy a programmer to change this limit or get it tuned, which I plan on doing.

Re: RPM limiter

you'll definatly want to raise the limiter with the cam.

just hold out till you tune it. no sense in buying a handheld unit.

Yea, I think my Z came from the factory with 6 cylinder tires, which is why I have it at 118, it all depends on which kind of tires they put on it, or so I've been told.

Stock rev limiter on an LS1 F-body of every year is 6200.

Re: RPM limiter

When you get your PCM tuned for the cam, you'll need that 6200 rev limiter raised a little, and have them get rid of the 118 mph limiter while they're at it.

Just so you know, the factory tachs don't always read 100% accurate.....it may look like only 6000 RPM, but in fact the limiter doesn't kick in until 6200 RPM.

Yea, I wasn't sure exactly where the limiter was on the rpms, I just knew it was around 6000rpms. I've only hit the rpm limit once, when I tried pushing it to the max at the track.

And also with raising the rpm limit, the engine won't have any problem running as high as 6600 rpms? I'm also going to do Dual Springs, Titanium Retainers, Seats, Intake/Exhaust Valve Stem Seals, & Hardened Pushrods with the cam.

6600 RPMs is still pretty safe for an LS1. Don't have to worry much until you get in the 6800-7000 rpm range.
