Removing stock cat back

I'm going to be installing a Magnaflow cat back this weekend. I have a few questions and would appreciate any input.

Are there any ways to remove the stock exhaust without cutting the I pipe and without unbolting the rear suspension if I had access to a lift?

If I do have to cut the I pipe, where do you suggest is a good spot on the pipe to cut if I were to just have my car on rhyno ramps? I have a saw saw.

Thanks,
Bill

Yeah, he said he had a saw. He was asking for the best place to cut it if he had to.

I would cut it right before it turns to go over the axle. That way you have nearly the whole I pipe intact and then you have the hump over the axle, muffler, and tailpipes intact.

I don't think you'll be able to remove the stock exhaust without cutting it. If it is clamped on, it's been through so many heat cycles its going to be pretty much just like its welded. I could be wrong, but that's my .02.

Yes I do have a sawzall. What do you mean it's clamped on and might be welded on due to heat cycle?

I thought all you have to do is undo 2 bolts that connect the y pipe to the I pipe. I sure hope that's not the welded part you're talking about.

Thanks,
Bill

If you have access to a lift and torch, cut clamp at the muffler, then heat till red(careful not to burn through) then wiggle apart and remove. Otherwise cut it.

Good choice on the catback IMO.They're on both my cars. You might get lucky like I did and your "I" will come off easy, but the torch does work good if it doesnt(99Black).
To cut it before it goes over the diff and try to remove it while only using ramps as an elevation, not going to happen.Car would have to be on a lift to do that. Or on jack stands but about 24-30 inches high.I tried.
I cut mine in 2 places what the hell I didnt want it anymore made it easy. You'll like the new exhaust buddy..good luck and have fun.
Remember to loose fit all the pipes and muffler and check for equal protusion of tips and good alignment to the sides of car before tightening the clamps.

I'm stsrting to get the picture of the clearance issue. I don't think I can get my car over 24" off the ground.
I think I'll just take it to a muffler shop and let them install it.

I cant wait to get it installed. Did you guys fell any performance gains? My car is a 02,z,m6 with just an SLP lid.

Thanks,
Bill
