Re-tune after header install?

I'm helping a friend put in SLP Long Tubes.

Do we have to re-tune the PCM with LS1 Edit or get a MAF translator to get the most hp out of the car?

I heard a while back that some guys were only getting 10rwhp off headers when they didn't re-flash the PCM. Is this still holding true?

To get the most out of the headers you need to wide band dyno tune. That's the best way to match up everything. Tuning without data is a crap shoot. Good luck. :)

Thanx.

We have a new shop opening in town that can re-flash LS1s on a dyno.

You do not NEED to get a tune after a header install, but like anything else, you will not see the full potential of them without a tune. I dont think its worth the cost to get a tune for just headers. Wait until you do something that requires tuning like a cam, or heads and then go ang get your tune.

Do you need a MAF translator?

nah, not worth it

I f you're going through the work & expense of headers don't short change the work you did by not doing a re-tune to get back all you can from the header install
