Quick Question
 

Hey guys I have a quick question for you I used to own a 96z and currently own an 2001Z Damn I love the LS1. My qustion is recently I got a horrible tank of gas from the local mobil The car would knock slightly under light throttle well i managed to get it down to about an 1/8 of a tank and filed her up 1/2 way wih what I hope s a better batch of gas from Chevron the knock seem to have gone away completly or almost completly underlight acceleration but when I am goin 40 and lightly blip the throttle it seems to to knock a little then it seems to clean up any suggestions would be appreciated.Is it maybe that I still have crappy gas in the filter and the line and it just needs to work itself out or what. The knockin is something that only us car geeks can hear it is really faint but audible enough to anger me. Any help would be appreciated. The car is a 01z A4 wih cutout lid and filter filter andit has 10,000 mile on it

Did you do anything else to the car, are you sure its not a simple mod like plugs or wires, or anything with the intake that could be causing the problem not the gas..? If you are sure then I would change the in-line gas filter asap and add a fuel injector cleaner. It may take a littlf while for the problem to work its way out.

Just a real quick story about a similar problem I had. It seems that any time I put Exxon gas in my car It would ping like a bitch. So like an idiot I started pissing money away by filling up with premium Exxon which eliminated the ping. Yeah the higher octane solved ..really masked the real problem...the brand of gas. Only Exxon
regular gas created a ping. Not Hess, not Mobil and certainly not Amoco/BP. My car is a 96 ford Taurus and runs great with 120k mi on it...as long as I dont feed her Exxon.
My 2000 Z-28 gets only the best...Sunoco Ultra 94 or Amoco Ultimate period. I would
friggin pass an Exxon station by..run out of gas and have to get towed before I fill up my
baby with Exxon.
So my suggestion after my not so short story is this try better grade/brands of Gas!!! It may be that simple!!!

Thanx for the replies everyone. I'm the guywhooriginally postedthis thread sorry for the new SN the puter crashed and I had to Reinstall AOL. SO I always run 91 in the car and today i filled her up with a full tank of presumably better gas and there is still a problem with Knock around 2k rpm Iam so pissed right now.Stock plugs and wires car has 10k on it and I have a direct flow lid with k&n filter I had run like 3 tanks of gas through it after the lid was installed no didn't have any problem until last monday and the trip to Mobil What could th culprit be ....I hate that my ride is runnin like ass and help would be much appeciatd. Yeah dont run Exxron, and only run 91-94 octane.

Even still you should run ore than 91, however its not available higher in some areas.

A non-stock MAF could cause that.(At least I've heard it does.) Use only 91 octane or higher. Try to stay away from ethonal if possible. I know my Z does not respond well to 10% ethanol gas. Good luck.

Thank for all the replies fellas damn car is still acting up if it doesn't clean up by Friday I'm gonna take it to the Dealer and have em take a look. THis is the first time something so small has made me so mad. I love this car and hate when it ain't runnin right
