Question About Odometer?

JUst a quick question. Is there any way for the dealer to tell how many original miles are on the car if I disconnect the odometer, or take the guages fuse out? Just wondering because I was thinking about doing this...

Thanks

so you want to drive the hell out of your car for a long while, but not record the mileage so that three or four years down the road you can sell a supposed low mileage car. Great idea. That is sarcastic if you can't figure it out. What possible reason would you have for disconnecting the odometer other than to defraud someone. Just hope someday you aren't on the losing end of that one.

Re: Question About Odometer?

Your best bet would be to go to your local police dept. to ask them how to do it, seriously.

All you have to do is take out the fuse that goes to the cluster? I thought it was harder. Besides you can't really get away with taking off very many miles.

wneh u pull the fuse the whole cluster doesnt work.....

and why couldnt u get away with a lot of miles......u could always buy another cluster for under 100 bucks and run your miles up on that for awhile

I read somewhere that is also stores your mileage in the PCM, too, so if someone checks they’ll know something is up since they won’t match.

This is true. The odometer is just the visual representation of what is stored in the PCM. Pull the fuses all you want, your milage is still being recorded. I know, I had a buddy try to defraud his VW dealer by doing the same thing. He's not too bright.

so what your saying is that if he pulls the fuse the mileage will still be registered and once he plugs the fuse back in it will record the miles he drove with the fuse out????????

.....if thts what your saying then you are wrong
