Question About Exhaust and Headers

So, I'm looking at what I want to do next to my Z, and I was considering an exhaust package. I know that I'll be getting headers at some point, but it's a lot easier to save up for an exhaust system in pieces than it is to have to buy all the parts: headers, Y-pipe, and catback(or whatever) all at once.

My question is, if I just get an exhaust put on, and then add the headers and Y-pipe later, can I expect any performance gains immediately, or only after I save up for the headers? I'd really like a deeper exhaust note, as well as something that will both look nice, and add some performance to the car.

Any suggestions or advice?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, it will add "some" power but not very much. It will look better depending on what brand you go with and will be deeper with almost any brand you choose.

You can get an exhaust and wait for the rest because you are right, its nice to buy in parts unless there is a kick *** deal. Good luck and search around for whichever system fits your budget and taste!

a catback will gain you about 10-12hp at the wheels, some say more...but that is a good estimate.

the headers will compliment the catback when you get around to it.

The flowmaster provides a deep sound and looks nice as well.

I like flowmaster, and I have it, cuz it came on the car. But I've got a cutout now, and almost never close it. Flows don't add any HP, so just get the cutout. More power, more thunder, and less $.

But I've got true duals in the works being installed next week, so, I'd say wait and save the money for the whole thing.

Thanks guys for the help.

Oh, and I'll never put Flowmasters on my car. I don't much care for the way they look, not to mention they're so cheap that nearly every sixteen year old with a fourth gen has them. I want something much better like Borla, or Corsa.
